Yellow DSC & brake light

Same lights problem with mine - seems a relatively common problem with low miles ( mine is at 29k ) Diagnosis identified DSC sensor 2 - just had it changed - car in garage for morning only - sensor replaced ,system bled and lights reset - cost £160 ( plus original diagnostic check at Indy £25 ) Lights now off and everything working as it should :D

This is what my C110 said. One of the pressure circuits was reading a high positive bar with the brake pedal depressed (I also got a reading at + 20 bar with pedal depressed at one point).

I decided to replace both sensors today for piece of mind. Both are located on master cylinder, no. 2 is the one nearest the bulkhead, no. 1 is the front most (with the spanner on it in pic).

They are both 27mm. You can just get a spanner on to undo, tho I've heard some undo the brake lines close to the sensors for access. If you want to use a socket it'll need to be deep.

Release the electrical clips (push the tabs and slide off), unscrew and remove each sensor in turn, trying to minimise fluid loss by screwing the replacement on straight away.

Once the new sensors are in bleed the system. If your car is RHD do it in this order (basically furthest bleed nipple from the master cylinder to the nearest).

Rear passenger
Rear driver
Front passenger
Front driver

The bleed nipples are on the top of the calliper and a one man bleed kit works fine. The nipples are 9mm and don't forget a squirt of WD40 before trying to open them.

My C110 gave good readings after the job

With each circuit within 1.5 bar of the other and the traction control lights now off permanently.

Many thanks Ron, really appreciate it.

How was the bleeding? My e36 used to be a nightmare to bleed.

My turn next! :)

It was easy TBH just laborious James.

Good squirt of WD on the bleed nipples and 5 minutes for them to soak and they all came undone nicely. Few things I found -

Both bleed nipples and DSC sensors are easy to over tighten, go easy on them they only need 'nipping up' plus 1/4 turn.

You'll need a litre of fluid for a thorough bleed. I upgraded to 5.1 while at it.

The further the calliper from the master cylinder the more presses of the pedal during the bleed. I pressed around 20 times for the furthest calliper (perhaps overkill?).

Don't spill brake fluid on the paintwork! It f@&ks it royally.

That's my experiences anyway. Worked anyway and saved money over an indie or stealer.

Thanks again Ron

Is the brake sensor part number 34521164456?

I'm sooooo slow to get this job done!! (and quite enjoying driving in the dry without the traction control etc! )

Hi,

I have this problem, ABS light, Traction control light and handbrake light all yellow.
Indie says hydraulic pump and pump connector codes being reported, new part £1600+vat plus labour.
I can't afford this, its a 5th the value of the car.

I have been advised to try a main dealer and see if BMW will contribute, does anyone have any helpful hints on how to approach this? I have had the car less than a year but I dont think it has BMW history.

Also I see in this thread a link to an ebay restorer, has anyone tried this route and does it work ok? On the website it says cars -2006 mine is on a 57 plate and I dont know my part number.

Any help appreciated at all, I'm really stuck.

Thank you, Richard.

Just had mine repaired through Indy, total cost including lifetime warranty on repair was £425. Ask your Indy if they do this or if not how much they would charge to take it out and refit and then send off yourself to someone like ecutesting.com

Really pleased to see it can be done, I thought I was going to have to sell or something.
I have just got the part number from my dealer today and I've emailed atpelectronics to ask them if they can do it.
Can I ask which indy fixed yours, in case atp come back and say no?
Cheers.

My update. Recently at least once a week I got yellow handbrake & DSC lights illuminated. After a cool-down, and a restart they went out, but I got a bit p1ssed of with the repeated warnings so booked it in to my local BMW dealer for investigation.

Their diagnostics reported that both DSC Sensors had failed, so I bit the bullet and spent the money with them for replacement and brake system bleed.

Yes I know I could have taken her to an indi but this way I get a two year warranty.

FYI the normal price for a sensor is £90.99 and labour rate is in the region of £125 per hour! - luckily I didn't have to pay either of these :)

Question, 2004 motor, 98k, any point in approaching BMW for goodwill?

Thanks.

Sorry another question on this, when I look at the DSC unit the part number shown is 3451-6769162-03 yet this part doesn't come up on realoem it shows as 3451-6778490?

Did anyone come back to you on this? I have the same question!!!

Thread revival! I know there are a few threads on this but I noticed I first had an ABS sensor issue in 2010.

Since then I've had the nsf one replaced again in 2017 @ 24k miles, and then again a year or so and 1500 miles later, along with a refurb of the ABS ECU.

And then yesterday I get the two lights, plug in Carly and get codes 005E21 and E24, and saying the nsf sensor is faulty yet again.

I know I could just get the sensor replaced, but the same one for the third time makes me wonder whether there could be anything else to look for. Has anyone else had this, or have any suggestions?

As I don't do many miles I'm tempted just to run it more regularly, with some long runs, to see if it clears. I'm pretty sure the battery is 3 years old, but can't find the bill - is it written on the battery?

Thanks.
