Yellow ABS, Brake and DTC Warning Light...

Tonight I had a few warning lights pop up after switching on the ignition, the has been fine all day.

I thinking ABS sensor? I am borrowing my friends OBD reader tomorrow to hopefully get some idea of what it is but I thought I'd see if anyone could shed some light.

Hmmm just checked the handbook "DSC including DTC and DBC is malfunctioning"

Sounds expensive :?
 
I've had this happen to me but it was after I hit a pot hole at speed :(

I ended up disconnecting the battery for ten minutes which seemed to clear the fault, then the problem never came back. That was a few months ago now.

Strange that yours has come on just from starting the car :(

Hmmm I hit a pothole last week, big pothole, I haven't driven the car really since then as I've been working away. I may just go and try that.
 
That didn't work. Well I'll see what fault code I get tomorrow, at best its a sensor but worst case it the DTC unit which won't be cheap.

Tried it again and this time it worked. You need to go for a drive after you have done it to activate the sensors then the lights clear.

I guess I still have a fault code stored so I will read that tonight and see what it is, but hopefully just a sensor blip.

ABS pulse sensor was the cause for me, happened with my old zed. £270 fix from the Stealers inc. parts, labour etc
 
Mine did this - was a wet ABS sensor and dried out after a day or 2. Dealer said they are very robust. Caused by driving with wheel arch trim removed in the wet weather.

has somebody been splashing through puddles? :driving: :poke:
 
I had exactly the same lights come up on my X3, steering position sensor, a quick reset, turn engine on, steering to full left then rotate to full right back to centre and switch off. Worked on the X3 never saw the lights again. Worth a try?
 
Well I've plugged it into the computer today and...............no faults stored :| :lol:


The fault lights haven't come back since unplugging the battery, I'm not sure what to think of it, maybe just a hick up I guess. I'm fitting my springs on tuesday hopefully so ill whip the sensors out at the same time and give them a clean.
 
Worst thoughts confirmed, hydro unit and I'm faced with a £2350 repair bill.

Because the car is fully serviced with main dealer history, its spotless with 25k my local dealer have said they would like to speak to BMW tomorrow first and see if anything can be done.
My argument on this is that is a low mileage 7 yr old car that's been maintained to BMW standards, a repair bill of this size shouldn't even occur.

I'll just have to see what happens tomorrow. A few beers tonight I think.

Ouch, same as mine :(. I had the same argument with the dealer/BMW (43k, FBMWSH, 2008/57) and got an 80% goodwill contribution on the unit itself for a total bill of £700ish if that's better news :).
 
That is good. I keep reading about an 80% discount when I googled, so maybe behind the lines this is something BMW have picked up on as a problem. I will just keep an open mind and hopefully be pleasantly surprised tomorrow.
 
Is there any relationship between the ABS/DSC Module (hydro module) and tyre pressures? I had a run flat indicator come on last night, the rear tyre at fault was only 4 psi lower than the other side. So anyway I pumped it up and reset the indicator, all good.

This morning I have no faults showing once again, is there any thing in this?

The cars booked in for repair on Tuesday and whilst I am getting some BMW good will out of it, id hate to spend the money out if there's no fault with the module. Although I trust BMW have actually tested the module and found a fault.

Mark that's shocking news. Glad my lights have stayed off but I guess you never know.!! I do wonder how much you can trust BMW thou. Makes me think it could just be a sensor rather than the whole unit.

Well I've just phoned local dealer to see what fault codes they actually found on the investigation and they are going to speak to a technician and phone me back.

Nightmare :(
 
Hope it works out for you man, thinking back to stuff I read thou having that ABS light is not good. :cry:
