That was me as the Sweep at the May 19 ZSCCA Spring Cruise. I know, I need a camera mount for the car, anyone know where I could buy one?

I hit 60 (ok, actually 59mph) at redline in second gear. Time it yourself, I keep coming up with 4.53sec.

I'll post a second video in a few minutes.

No, I started in first, shifted to second with my pinkey, then fumbled into third cause I had the darn video camera in my hand and that wasn't easy but somehow I got it back up there. Third takes me to 80 at redline and you can hear the rev limiter when I hit that, then you can hear me let off then I take it back up and hit the rev limiter in third again, then break for the corner (no idea how fast I took the corner, but I estimate it to be between 40 and 45 cause of how long it takes me to get back to redline in third).

Here is the other one

And here is a not so exciting one but it shows most of the Zs that came out for the Spring Cruise all lined up and ready to hit the road

Yep, time it yourslef. I can't duplicate it, but there it is on video. Every time I try to duplicate I keep running it in 5.8 or 6.0.

The car was running really good that day. Even the //M couldn't outrun me that day, but he did say something about a passenger limiter something or other.

Kewl, so the videos worked for you without the codec!!!!
Yes...I wonder why it would not work when you sent them to me via E-Mail... :? Anyway problem solved.

FYI...I have a window camera mount you can borrow if you want for the August run which I can't attend.

kewl vids, flyboyaj. Couple of questions, though:

1)Why did you drive gangsta style? I suppose it's b/c you had the camera on the other hand...

2)Who's Merc was on the lot? Nice car, but stuck out like a sore thumb.

Okay flyboyaj, I watched the video 2 times and I don't see anything showing the speedo or a stop watch or anything that shows you did 0-60 in any specific time, so what an I missing here?

155MPH, Second gear redlines at 60. So when I fumble into third (the second time the camera points down at my leg) that's when I hit 60. I'm gonna have to take the car to the Atco Raceway and get a better, more accurate, more PROVABLE time there I guess. I know the 2.5 isn't supposed to be that fast but I've showed the video to some guys and let them drive the car to show that it hits 60 at redline in second and they told me it's right on and that how fast a car is really depends on the driver, especially in a manual. I just got lucky that day and was even more lucky to have it on video. Like I said before I haven't been able to duplicate that time.

1) Yes

2) I wondered that as well and never did figure it out. WLH do you know who's Mercedes that was?

OKay, fbaj, but I am still confused. Did you measure how long the video runs to determine how fast you were going? Is that the measure of 0-60? the number of seconds of video?

I think he meant 0-60 feet of distance in 4.5x seconds which would make sense. :) Or maybe 0-60km/h. There's no way a 2.5i can go from 0-60mph in 4.5x seconds. It's even hard for a Z4M to do with 146 extra horsepower.

Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner
That is the only way it can run a 4.5, by measuring the time of the video. Unfortunatley, video play back/recording devices are not calibrated to 1/10 of a second, and can give you the appearance of having gone faster than you actually did. :slaphead:

If anyone wants to log runs such as 0-60, 1/8, 1/4 mile times along with other assorted data, I would recommend getting one of these:

I use it for logging data from runs at the local drag strip. It is small, lightweight, consistent, and stores runs for later review.

Cheers!

It uses 3 built in accelerometers and the RPM signal through the cigarette lighter to determine all the data. At this point you are starting to get into physics which is far from being my cup of tea. 💫
There is a basic writeup of how it all works on their website.
