Yawn, code readers - sorry, I've looked!

Appreciate any help here with this specific request - I've researched endlessly on here a about Carly, laptop & cables, other exotic readers and I'm not sure there is actually an answer.

A) Missus' E85 thrown an airbag fault. Need to diagnose and clear (appears contract Carly can't clear son airbag fault?)
B) I'd also like something that can be used to also diagnose & clear other things, but for someone that can change a wheel and use a laptop for work - that's my mechanical and technical ability.
C) I'd also be able to program my E85 to do clever things ( like open roof from key, flap side mirrors in excitement etc).

So a numpty tool, that can clear an airbag fault and do other stuff - repeat, for a novice. And not break either car.

There isn't one, is there?

Cheers for any insight.

Buy a C310+ then find someone else with Carley who’ll do the other bits for you.

I understand the differences between coding and diagnosis and therefore why Carly is worth having.
I also understand that my experience with the readers is somewhat limited.
What I am trying to ascertain then, is what are the advantages/disadvantages/differences between the two readers that get most mentions: namely the C310+ and the Autophix 5900?
Does anyone have experience of both?

A) who are you?
B) why are you asking supplementary questions before my original question has been answered by anyone good enough to reply?
C) bugger off and start your own thread

Had an airbag light recently on my Z4M, got a Autophix 7910 for a little over £100 off amazon and that cleared it, also got me some more codes to investigate. The 7910 had extra features that let you calibrate/reset modules as opposed to just reading/clearing codes. If all you want is a code reader then the Autophix 5900 should do, it will also do some of the module calibration stuff as well, just not as many as the 7910.

This is what I got...

Blimey :exitright:

Your question has been answered - I have additional info for you but because of your attitude I really can’t be bothered now.

Bear you come across as an arrogant twot. With that attitude you won’t last long on here.Use the serch button as this has been covered many times.

I've spent hours and hours looking into this, driven myself mad going around in circles and came here to carefully word my question and make it as succinct as possible to be helpful as me and not waste anyone's time on a frequently discussed topic - so when the second post was someone wading in with their own question, without acknowledgement or an apology - I was pretty narked.

It was written as casually as if it was a follow up from me!

If calling someone out that, even if blunt, using the international driving 'no hard feelings' signal of a happy driving emoji, makes me arrogant on here then so be it - and duly noted on the you're probably not welcome/arrogant vibes off the back of a single post. Cheers for that.

I thank you for voicing your considered opinion so politely and respectfully.
Manners are in such short supply these days.
I will attempt to answer your concerns and hope the replies this time will be 'good enough' for you.

A. My name is Martin. The rest is shown in the little box to the left of this reply.
B. The supplementary question was to highlight for you that there are factors to consider before spending your cash. I posed this question in the hope it would assist you to make an informed decision.
C. You can rest assured that I will 'bugger off' right this minute and leave you to find out the information from the myriad experts within this forum.

I hope you won't mind if I revisit this thread from time to time? I would like to see what the recommendations made to you are. Then I can further my knowledge and in future will potentially be able to help other members so much more efficiently.

I've driven myself mad reading up on this, I need a jokey but slightly offensive word but there is some confusion about the spelling, is it knob or nob?

Nob or knob is fine. Dick is probably easier.

I've gone for the autophix 7900 that the chap up there suggested thanks.

Apologies Martin, what I posted it doesn't read back well, despite it meant to be semi humourous, but hands up completely failed.

If you've ever got any questions about the 7900, let me know and I'll find out the answer (if I can).

Edit: it's available even cheaper here for £102 with the 12% discount code if anyone is interested:

Fair do's

For anyone stumbling across this thread, the 7910 doesn't have any coding abilities (apart from steering angle sensor and other stuff you'd be mental to play with if you're a soft office-hands pansy like me)

Looks like there isn't an all in one and I'll have to get Carly as well, the subscription wench, or learn German, to get flappy roof/mirrors etc.

I got myself a 310+ for an airbag light, quickly identified the issue and cleared the light.
