Evening

Before I go digging about under the drivers seat- what’s the rough location of the yaw sensor please on an e85?

Cheers

Stuart

Hi Stuart. Its a Drivers seat out job definitly , as the Yaw sensor sits dead centre of the seat under the carpet . :?

Yes, square in the middle. The carpet is in two pieces, so it’s quite easy to get to with the seat out.

What’s up with yours?

Throwing codes mate

I had to dry it out when I got it so assume it’s either in need of some contact cleaner or it’s succumbed

There seems to be lots of yaw sensors coming up on fleabay at the moment. I hope it doesn't cost you a lot of money to get it sorted.

I got a second hand one for a very reasonable ten quid!

Just need to get round to getting the seat out!

Unless you're a contortionist who likes working blind, you'll also need to lift the carpet after removing the trim from the door sill.
The unit is fixed to the rear of the cross member which is located ahead of the seat.

Did mine a few weeks ago.
A few threads recommended disconnecting the battery and leaving for 40 mins to reduce the risk of the airbag issues.

Was yours waterlogged?

Did you pop a new one in to fix the issue?

My symptoms were 3 lights on the dash, namely DTC / run flat / brake warning.

When I pulled up the carpet, it was very wet. I put a second hand one from eBay in, and that sorted it.

Further investigation has shown that I was missing the waterproof door liner. I think a previous owner had a window regulator replaced and the garage didn’t replace the liner.
The water killed both the yaw sensor and the airbag satellite sensor on the B pillar which I’m now struggling with recoding a used unit.

Good to know

I’ve stopped the water ingress which was the same as yours, the door membranes were in shocking state

What was/is your error code? Those three lights seem to cover a multitude of sins.

Facelift sensors are compatible with pre facelift cars.

Pre facelift sensors are not compatible with facelift cars.

There's a number of sensors that are compatible with pre facelift cars as the YAW sensor was shared across a number of different cars, Mini, 3 Series I think.

The pre facelift sensor is in a metal case. Facelift sensors are in a plastic case.

30 minute job max.

Remove the 4 nuts and bolts holding the seats in place.
Tilt seat back.
Disconnect the cable under the seat.
Slip the seatbelt out the guide near the headrest.
Remove the seat from the car.
Remove the plastic cover holding the carpet in place at the door rubber. Just rip it off as it clips back in. Careful not to lose any of the plastic bits.
Lift the carpet at the split.
Remove the three nuts holding the sensor in place and the two nuts holding the sensor.

Replace sensor and put the seat back in. Connect the seat to the electrics and start the car to check it's all ok.

If all is ok screw everything back into place.

I may have replaced the sensor twice due to getting a pre facelift sensor in error!
