So another job done yesterday and one I’d been meaning to do for a while, having 4 young kids that like to come for a drive in the Z from time to time, I wanted to fit the airbag deactivation kit, was abit hesitant about drilling into the dash and centre console! But it went really well and was really happy with the end result.

I would really like to do the same mod on my Z. Mine is 3.0i 54 plate, im pretty poor with cables/electrics :roll:
How can i check if i can do this mod on mine model?
I would really apreciate any advice on that, cheers

I’m pretty sure all e85 Z4s came pre-wired for the air bag deactivation kit.

The way you can check is to remove the passenger air vent/drinks holder, it’s held in by a few Philips screws.
Once you’ve done this, you should see a wire with a plastic connector on the end. This is for the connection to the key slot that your actual car key slots in and you turn to switch the air bag on or off. See Picture 1,2,3,4




The other way to check is to pull your ashtray out and there should be a wire with a blue plastic connector. This is the connection for the centre console airbag illumination light.

I will check it and if it will have all the above wiring im definietly ordering the parts(already saved up on ebay)

Alright, so i looked into it just now and its looks like that:

in the air vent, there is indeed spare one, but tighted so much i couldnt move it at all. will work it out later if you confirm its correct one.

And ashtray:

ignore cable thats going out of that place, its for BT module.
There is one cable below, but i couldnt pull the end of it from neuther side and didnt want to force it. maybe someone hid it when installing that BT module idk..

Looks like you’ve found the correct connectors for the airbag deactivation kit. Hope you got it fitted

So been a while since I’ve posted anything as not really done anything to the Z up till now other than drive it everyday.

So thought I’d add a 3.0i badge to the rear in place of the Z4 badge, that I removed a while ago. Need a new BMW boot badge but otherwise think it looks quite smart and let’s anyone know that there is some go with the show. What do you guys think?
