Xeon Servo Adjuster

My E86 has just failed its MOT on the drivers xeon headlight is not adjusting itself when you turn the lights on (failure is listed as beam to high).

There is a noise from the headlight but no movement.

I have removed the headlight and taken off the back cover and can't see anything obvious wrong, but am trying to work out how the servo adjuster is meant to work. I assume its an electro magnet and have removed it from the casing to see if the plunger moves, it moved into the unit a small amount by now seems to be stuck and wont pull back out.

If anyone can shed any light (sorry for the pun) on this I would be grateful.

I had issues with this on the most recent project

The movement comes from a lateral movement (front to back of the car) pushed by the motor

The servo motor is the circular device visible in your picture on the left middle

You can remove it and test it- from memory it’s 2x t15 screws

Remove them and Unclip the pushrod from its holder

I found it useful to plug it in then (freed up) and see if it cycles

If not- buy a new one

If it does- that’s another issue

Thanks bigwinn, I have removed the servo motor and all it did was the plunger moved into the body by less than 10mm. When turned off, should you be able to pull/push the plunger by hand?

No it’s immovable

Plug it back in without it being installed and turn ign and lights on to see if it cycles

New one needed!

Use real oem to get the part number from memory the e60 units are the same

Very cheap- around £10

The one I've taken off has no wires on it, but when I look for new ones they all show ones with short length of wires. Will these fit?

Don’t think so

You need one the same as yours which is a plug on the back the loom plugs into
