Xenons - turn on automatically??

I had a search for this, but I couldn't find any information. Hopefully one of you has the answer to this. :)

I bought a car in Germany and imported to Norway. The problem is that in Germany the cars are not required to have the headlights on during the day, but in Norway they are. It is a hassle to turn on the lights each time I get in the car, I would be very happy if they turn on automatically when I turn the key (this is how it would work if I had bought the car here).
Is it possible to make this happen somehow?
Don't know if it matters but I have Xenons and they have the "automatic" function, i.e. they automatically turn on if it is dark.

Any suggestions?
 
I believe you have to go to a garage with the correct computer equipment to activate that function.
 
The sensitivity of the auto lights can def be adjusted (and even set to always on) using an autologic box.

I had mine adjusted as they were too sensitive and would come on in anything but bright sunshine... but one of the options i saw on the screen was "always on"
 
Aquazi: there's 2 different options available for head/side lights (plus others for interior & follow-home lights) - there's the 'auto lights' sensitivity setting and a 'daytime running lights' setting.

The dealer just needs to change the coding/programming for whichever setting you need - don't know the cost as anything I've needed has been done for free when it's been in for something else.
 
Don't know how it is in Europe, but in the US, the DRL is the inner angel eye ring ONLY if you have Xenons.
 
mmm-five is correct. Ive seen this option on NCS-Expert. Daytime running lights use the High-Beam bulbs at 50% power as a default. You can change this percentage also.

A dealer or good BMW Indy should be able to sort it for you... Or come to Sheffield and buy me a Norwegian beer ;)

Thanks to all for the info! :thumbsup:
I will take it to a dealer or indy and have them sort it out. At the same time I will get them to program the key so that I can use it to remotely put the top up. :D
Any other programming functions that anyone has done and is really happy with?
A norwegian beer would be a cheap price, but everyone complains about norwegian beer not being very good. :wink:

Those are E90 19s. However, they are replicas, since the offset on the OEMs is wrong for a non-M, which would result in the rear wheels protruding from the wheel arcs.
Do you think they look good on the car? :poke:
(Before anyone comments, the Eibachs are planned. :D :wink: )

Find the light sensor and paint it black so it always thinks it's night time? :)

Ok, perhaps this isn't the *right* way to do it, but it'd work! :)

Excellent temporary solution until I have time to go to the dealer. Any idea where the sensor is? :)

I don't :(

I seem to remember there being a sensor at the bottom of the rear view mirror, but I guess that's probably for the auto-dip mirror?

There's also a sensor on the windscreen (at the front of the rear view mirror) which I think is for the auto-wipers, but it could also be for the lights.

Aside from that I'm really not sure, a quick search on here has drawn a blank too :\
 
Z4_in_Norway, Apart from the absence of the deeper dish rears they are splendid! You do need to lower it though, too high for a sports car, looks like a goat :)
 
Is the sensor by the light switch the one that turns on the lights? Or does that one just control interior dim/bright of instrument lights.

There are two sensors on the rear view mirror--one on the back (toward the windshield) and one in the center of the mirror. I believe the one in the center of the mirror controls the auto dim of that mirror. Not sure what the one on the back of the mirror does-could be to assess difference front and back with the auto dim or might be for auto dim of headlights. I'd try that one first.
 
On my car the light sensor is on the windshield behind the rear view mirror.. i think this is also the rain sensor. When my car has been very mucky the lights stay on all the time!
