hi
my xenon are no longer working, totally my own stupid fault .i removed the back covers as there was a bit of misting, have done this before ,and drive with lights on and clears it, well went to work yesterday ,and it rained :headbang: yep i forgot to put the covers it was only when i got home i realised.oh s**t ,the light where on when i got homeand parked turned car off ,now will not come on.have removed both lights and am drying out ,checked bulbs and they seem ok not blacked or blown, well i think not, ballast might be knackered or igniters not sure,,not sure best way to check and eliminate ,any help ???? please fell free to call me an idiot i deserve it :)
thanks :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

It will probably be the ballasts.... They fill up with water.

Remove them and you can unscrew the backs, empty out water and hope for the best..

If it comes to the worse and you need new ballasts, they are available from Hella agents...

I think they are around £90 each, which is a lot better that BMW prices of £350 each..

right ,,i had the ballasts off both had water in ,one more than the other and that one looks like there's a very tiny bit of blackening ,but not directly on the circuit board its by 2 very tiny wires that look to be fixed to the plate itself, the other looks clean as a whistle but did have water in , goona let everything dry out properly using a hairdryer now and then and refit monday hopefully works but if not hella ones are 79 quid a pop on ebay so not too bad ,,,,,,just seen some on ebay 45quid new ,they say oem hella ,but how do u tell if they are genuine?

You can buy used ballasts from eBay for around £60 I've replaced two now and it's always because of water getting in via the back panels. I've also replaced the back panels as the rubber seal fails over time.

It's such a pain removing the bumper to get to the ballast :headbang:

lol cheers for replying ,defo gona get new back covers when its sorted, shame they dont just do the the rubber seal ,how much are the covers ? cant be that much can they, also sheared a bolt from each light as they was corroded and just twisted and snapped ,thats no prob though, bloke next door had exact bolts and washers and give me a few ;)

I think the back covers cost me around £13 each from the dealer. You could always take out the rubber seal and put it back in reversed as this can sort the seal. I've had water get in even with my new back covers so make sure you clean the mating edge of dirt ect.

Cheers

....UPDATE.... refitted and dried out balasts and the xenons working ok  .what a bit of luck .i was expecting the worst to be fair with the amount of water in them , so it was the ballasts just needed drying out and if they do eventually fail got a pair lined up for 120 ,off now to tighten bolts and fit bumper back on ,im actually happy to do this pain in the backside job now :D :D :D :D :D :D
thanks for the help and advice guys
