Xenons MOT

So since fitting my xenons, I've been dreading the MOT. Went in today and the technician has put them as an advisory.

He said the test changed on the 20th march 2013 to check that self levellers and washers are working, when they are fitted as factory standard.

The xenons themselves however are not an MOT fail as their is nothing on the MOT regarding the bulb type, just the beam pattern and height etc.

Off topic, I had to remove my z4 round sticker as its inside the wiper sweep in the bottom right. I'll need to get another from Taz! Everything else passed!

EDIT: just checked my certificate, he actually failed the MOT for the sticker and then did a retest to pass it!
 
i take it yours are retro-fit ebay HID's? if so, thats some good information, cheers :thumbsup:

got some for mine i need to fit. will save me dismantling the front end every year.

In the bottom right, so drivers side. I actually hadn't noticed it was in the swept area and when he told me, I said, no it's not.

Nope, full BMW units from a facelift.
 
You have retrofitted Xenon light units, does the car have self levellers and washers? I understood that this changed on an MOT a few years back, and levellers and washers are a must.

I have genuine oem xenon's on an XF without self levelling and so far have always passed. Might have to swap in my old halogen units next time..

I actually agree with tightening up the regs to get all the dazzly aftermarket hid's off the road.

No, that was my point.

The MOT would check them if they were fitted as standard, however as they wernt fitted, he can't test them.

It changed to an advisory early last year and as of 20th march this year, testing the function of the washers/levellers is a fail if broken.

I am of course just going on what my MOT tester told me,

There is no requirement to fit levellers and/or washers just because of fitting HID lights.
They only have to be tested if fitted. Not fitted is not a fail.
