Xenons? Do I have them?

How many people have just raced to the kitchen...got their car keys from the cupboard and gone out to check if they have the light height adjuster switch on their dashboards?

I have pop up washers, the lights auto level at start up but I have the lights adjuster switch so as I thought I only have halogen & not Zenon.... bah hum bug! Awww well nevermind

... and you HAVE to have headlight sprayers. The opposite is not true though, i.e. headlight sprayers does not mean Xenon but without them, you can never have Xenon.

Do you know why this is the case ? Is it simpy that those cars with Xenons always had the washers as part of the package, or is there some sort of practical/safety/MOT reason ? I ask because I currently have my headlight washers disconnected (well, taken the fuse out..)

Yes - I do know... Xenons are deemed so bright that it was a condition of being accepted that they had to have automatic headlight cleaning to minimise dirt and dust on the lens, which could diffuse the beam and daxzzle other dirivers. Part of the same reason that they have to have automatic levelling so extra wight, fuel passengers (especially in salooons) don't also affect beam level.

Xenon cars always therefore have washers but non xenon could have them specified as an extra or included in basic model spec.

OK thanks. So with Xenons fitted, but headlight washers disconnected..do you think this could be an MOT point ?

a11y - xenon are HID's. See my previous post.

Sorry, just my crap way of typing it . When I was writing "xenon" I meant "factory xenon" as opposed to aftermarket HIDs.

Both halogen and xenon go through a power up cycle that resets them to their correct level. It's not self levelling on halogen as all they do is return the light to the preset position determined by manual adjustment (factory/garage setting) and the knurled wheel. On xenons the sensors on one front and one opposite suspension member self adjust the lights to the same pre determined level through all load and driving conditions. Hope that explains

ferrelscent - Yes it should be an MOT fail but I doubt many would notice it, or be bothered.
