Xenon washer cover clips snapped

Hi guys,

I’ve just had two washer nozzles replaced on the Z as one was blocked and took it out for the first time used the washers and the cover flew off the car.

I think it has broken when the nozzles have been replaced and they have glued it to the nozzle which really annoys me. Regardless it’s 15 years old and I know these are super common to break.

Question - can the colour coded cover be split from the clipped section? The cover is in good condition just the clips have snapped which looks like it’s plastic welded to the cover?

The cover is obviously colour coded and I have seen you can buy pre painted items for £42 on eBay but I bet it won’t match being 15 years old.

If anyone has a spare I could buy if the above is possible I would be interested. Or if anyone has any advice would be welcome!

Cheers

Looks like they’ve been ‘welded’ in to place. You could trim off the excess melted plastic and try to free the covers. Once you’ve got them free I’d use a soldering iron and re melt them in to place.

I had to do something similar on an old golf bumper bracket. Was a little fiddle but worked perfectly

They are a right PITA aren't they?

It looks like the painted section could be removed, but it would be very fiddly and may not be successful. In any case BMW only supply the complete cover as one part.

I bought one from Sopers in March 2020 for £12.93 and foolishly declined their offer to paint it for £15. I ended up spending almost that on paint. :headbang:

So once it was fitted I pulled Fuse 40 and no longer get streaks on the wings or lose bits! :D

Same thing happened to me when replaced the washer jets . I used chemical metal to hold the plastic tabs in place. Been around 18 months and still going strong

If it’s any help (not sure it is) my driver side snapped, I just bought a 3D printed one off eblag and painted and lacquered it myself…
