Xenon to hid

Hi guys

I currently have xenons on my z4. The left hand one is not working. I tried the bulb and igniter on the other side and it worked fine. I've checked all fuses and can only assume it's the ballast.

I was wonder for a cheaper option is it possible to just replace my xenons with hid ? Or does any one know a cheap place I can by a ballast ?

I think HIDs will be illegal without washers etc. It's also worth looking at http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/conversions/conversions.html, which suggests that replacement HIDs may be brighter, but they provide less useful illumination.

But op said it factory xenons therefore the car has auto level and washer jets.

I believe the cars take ds2 bulbs which are effectively the same as a H7.

Some trail and error may be needed or look at breakers for a single ballast.

Ballast's not that expensive when bought from the likes of HIDS Direct etc.

It would be loony to attempt to get a HID kit (which is intended to fit into halogen sockets as an upgrade) to fit into a xenon holder designed to hold the ignitor. Sure you could get a scrap halogen light and retrofit the rear part of the holder, but would then need to adjust and align it, add halogen wiring loom and on and on
..
Secondly xenons operate by using a shutter to raise and lower to create dipped and main that in no way will work with a HID kit that is in essence a dipped only bulb unit.

Get a ballast cheap off ebay and stay stock
