Xenon headlights require washers?

My newly acquired E85 Z4 3.0 roadster has Xenons but no headlight washers. Is this OK or is it a problem for an MoT?

I thought as much, although it was only MoT'd a month ago and passed! :!:

How difficult / easy is it to fit washers?

I thought all factory-fit Xenons on BMWs came with washers and self-levelling as standard but, if it's an aftermarket conversion, it might still be OK - worth reading the link below

They wre definitely said to be Xenons, and they have what appears to be LED sidelights? Not OEM though as it's a 2003 car. Perhaps best to email the guy who sold it to me and ask about the Xenon lights and MoTs. :?

I retro fitted factory xenon headlights over two years ago with no MOT issues what so ever. My local garage was only concerned that they had a self levelling function fitted, which they did. Speak to your local Mot place before worrying.

Mine passed its 3rd MOT with after market xenons without washers today, no problem, they work very well, beam pattern is excellent, flat cut-off not dazzling oncoming drivers, and the improvement over OEM Halogen is dramatic, plus 3 years and no bulb replacements, despite driving with them on all the time.

My 08 3.0si has factory xenons and I don't have headlight washers.
Just sayin'

How can their be any uk spec cars with a 3.0 without factory washers, regardless of xenons? They were factory fit, and indeed if you have xenons on a smaller engine would have washers fitted.

You wont need them for an MoT... I fitted aftermarket ones on the wifes 60 plate fiesta (with projectors) and it has passed an mot last yr with them.

+1

I was under the impression that all UK spec 3.0i z4's had headlamp washers as standard even if you didnt have optional extra xenons, i looked at a few cars before getting mine and all cars inc cars with halogen lights had them.

I would think someone may have cahnged the bumper at somepoint on your car and for some reason removed headlamp washers etc.

Have a look at your cars spec sheet (how section describes how to do this) and it will say if it had headlamp washers from the factory.

I emailed the guy who sold me the car and he replied
Hi,

Good news is yes & yes to both questions, the headlights are definitely self-levelling, and the headlight washers clean the headlights once in every 5 or 10 screen washes. The car has never had problems with an MoT.
Seems I'm OK then!

Sorry for any confusion and thanks for your replies.
