Xenon headlight

Hi all

Looks like i need a new drivers side (offside} Xenon for my 07 3.0si
Not looking forward to paying £1000
Any ideas as none on ebay
How easy is it to go to something like normal Halo headlights and fit them until a xenon comes up in the future(less than £400 for two)
Or do i just bite the bullet
Mot in Jan and if i am lucky it may pass on the day
But don't like driving with not knowing if the flash is working on not in day time (dangerous)
Problem i got is flash/full beam don't stay on
Sometimes it will be fine until i hit a minor bump in the road
Over a bumpy country lane the full beam will be on off on off
but main beam is fine
looks like the passenger side one is fine on full beam but is shut down as drivers one fails
Replaced the control unit also/wiring also been checked
Any help ideas most welcome

So you haven't isolated the problem? What do you mean by control unit, ballast? Sounds like something is loose but the LCM outputs are also worth checking.

The way its going its gona cost 1000 quid in checks
Yes the ballast has been changed
talking to a bmw tec today and previous goes at fixing seems there is a shutter(this part is failing) to direct beam from main to full and im told that cant be fixed
LCM sorry not sure what that is?
i two felt/feel that there is something loose but light has been checked over but nothing

So the ballast has been changed without resolving the issue, I'd be asking for a refund there and/or refitting of the old unit.
So you have a working light that doesn't go to main beam - it doesn't look like the shutter is a separate part but that doesn't mean you couldn't dismantle the headlight to try and resolve, it's not like you have anything to lose.
You can pick up a new headlight from Soper, Lincoln - I'm sure it will be cheaper than £1k even if you pay someone else to do the work.

There is no shutter on the e85-6 xenons. The full beam is done by the halogen bulb
Only dipped beam is xenon

There is a shutter on the xenons, the xenon is on and the shutter opens for full beam, on the pre facelift the inner light works for flash to pass, on facelift this is changed to the xenon doing all the work. Speak to Ranski on here who might have some headlights lying around.

It's an easy fix to put a new component in to activate the shutter, although of course not sold as a spare part. Buy a scrap xenon and swap it over. Might have a pre-facelift part in the loft but am out of the country

To be really clear the shutter is a simple solenoid that raises a flap. That cuts off the bottom of the beam. As it projects through the lens and is inverted it has the effect of cutting the top off the beam.

So could i get the part i need from another BMW bi xenon say e36 or e90 for instance?
or the opposite side (passenger side)
Or will it be Drivers only as light gets directed in certain way?
Thanks again

Hi Again

Can i use a headlight from america (left hand drive car) and get it work? light patten work for use over here
Cheers

I don't think it will pass an MOT. You'll have to remove the kick up on the wrong side and make the beam flat, and I don't think a flat beam will pass.
