Xenon Headlight not levelling

Ok, done the forum searches and a few investigations, so now have some questions...

Problem I have is the driver side headlight auto-levels fine on every startup, but the nearside headlight is not cycling at all - it stays level so is fine for driving, but does not do the down-and-up cycle when the headlights come on.

I know about the sensors but my first question is, do the sensors affect both lights equally, i.e. there is no circuit difference in the feeds to both headlights? So I don't need to look at the sensor feeds if one headlight works fine?

Also, is there any other test I can run before settling on a failed stepper motor as the cause?

Finally does anyone know the connections for the small plug (rather than dismantling the headlight to find its a cold join, or similar) as I could just try a voltage feed across the plug - if I know the connector settings....

When you turn the ignition/headlights on can you hear a mechanical whirring sound atall as if its trying to auto-level?

Have you checked to see if both the sensor components are fine and in tact themselves? The arm from the sensor unit is a common fault where it'll break away and thus fail to self level.

From memory when one of the sensors went on my o/s front I THINK it only affected one of the headlights, so i think they may run off each light separately.
 
Cheers Ste. It's definitely auto levelling on the drivers side, I can see and hear it. I'll recheck the sensors to make sure nothing's broken- given the potholes around here (some are more like sinkholes) there may have been a knock.
 
I had this...

It was the motor in the headlight that was faulty..

I bought 2 at the time so have a spare one...Let me know if you need it,Xenon and halogen ones are different BTW..
 
Cheers, I may come back to you, just want to check its not the sensor. How difficult was it to change the stepper motor?
 
Headlight out is the way i did it...

You may be able to waggle it out of the access hole in the inner wing?

If the sensor was faulty it would affect both lights at the same time.
