Xenon Headlight Issue

Since washing my car Monday, I’ve been getting a warning light for a bulb being out. At first, I thought it was just the fig light on the passenger side so ever side but I noticed this morning that the halo on my xenon is fine but I have neither a dipped beam or a full beam.

If the ballast is gone, I assume that the halo will still function?

I’ll have to do some poking around but I was hoping someone might be able to give me some additional pointers on where to start.

For the Xenon you have an ignitor and a ballast. Could also be the bulb as that does dip and main beam.

The halo ring is lit by a normal type bulb.

Yep - my guess would be Ballast as that is the bit that would see water. The bulb and the ignitor sit inside the light unit itself and would be protected by the gasket and cover on back of light. If memory serves the ballast is bolted underneath the light and is sensitive to water ingress.

Thanks. I’ve ordered a new ballast.

I’m hoping that the headlight and fog being out are coincidental. I’m sure when I first checked the lights when the bulb warning appeared that the headlight was fine but I’m doubting myself now.

From what [ref]Usel[/ref] said, would it not be simpler to check the bulb first?

I’m doing that as well but rather than wait further should it be the ballast, I’d rather have one on the way. It wasn’t that expensive so might be a handy thing to chuck in my box of bulbs and fuses for future use.

All sorted; it was just new bulbs needed which made life relatively easy.

I replaced the drivers side headlight bulb too to ensure there was no difference in colour / brightness.

So, I’m not fully out of the woods yet.

Having checked my new bulbs out in the dark tonight, the bulb out warning light is back along with the double quick indicator if I signal left. Weirdly, I didn’t have this when there were bulbs out. :headbang:

I’ve spent t ages tonight checking the bulbs and everything is working as it should. The car just thinks that it’s not.

I guess my first port of call tomorrow is to check the connections for the two bulbs in the passenger side that I changed today. After that, I’m a bit stumped to be honest. I plugged in my Creator code reader and there are no codes.
