Xenon headlamps beam dropped after Eibach Pro fitted

Hi all.

Only recent work has been to swap out the springs for Eibach Pro set.

First drive with lights on has shown my dipped beams have dropped so only 8 yards( American friendly unit) are lit from the car. Both lamps have done this and the auto level is still making them adjust up and down to keep this distance.

I can easily adjust them both with the hex key but wondered if others had experienced this and if they could shed some dipped light on it for me?

The auto-adjusters on the suspension clearly think the car is pointing 'up' more at the front, so aiming the lights down.

Is the lowering even all-round? Maybe the adjustment also assumes an all-round equal compression may now result in the nose rising quickly (in the event of a compression, not lowering in this case) and so firing the beam out quite high!? Ie, under dive, they will aim up, under nose lift/tail squat they will aim down, and under all-round compression they may aim down too!?

I'd just adjust them up to the desired level again and let the auto adjusters work from there again :)

Hi Dave.

Thanks for your thoughts.

I'll make the adjustment today but wondered if anyone else had experienced this when installing Eiback Pro springs?
The kit did say that the rear 'drop' was less than the front, 10mm difference I believe. But this change of angle is far less than the angle change of the light direction.
When you put a heavy weight in the boot, the lights auto level. I guess the system is not based on a simple damped pendulum but on a compression measurement somewhere.

It's guaranteed to be due to the rear end now being lower than the front, replicating a fully loaded boot. The rear sensor can be found on the suspension wishbone and is well inboard, so any change in height will be amplified and resultant dip of the headlights significant.

BMW are also certain to have set the parameters to level/dip 'low' rather than 'high', to remove any possibility of dazzle as the car moves up an down.

I know you seek 'comfort' that others have experienced this but just adjust away.

Your knowledge of where the sensor is and what it is actuated by makes me happy :)

I'm off on a 2 week driving trip around Italy very soon and didn't want a headlamp fault before I began.

Many thanks.

Wish I were driving to Italy :( this weather is so drab this week.

Don't forget you can adjust your xenons for EU by removing the rear cover and flicking the lever on the reflector. I'm sure you knew already
