Xenon brightness?

Is it me, or are the xenons on my 2009 Z4 way better than the ones on my 2011 X1 ? Now it's dark, I have only just taken the Z out on an unlit road to use main beam. They are about twice as powerful I reckon. Can only presume it is a more powerful unit because of the performance but didn't realise this was the case?

Is it just me?

Xenons on mine are superb, completely blow away anything I've used before...

I think the lights on the zed are awesome, best I've ever had.

How do you find the X1 as a daily, had a 2.0d as a loaner for a few days and couldn't wait to give it back?

That's what I think about mine. Main beam on the Z is phenomenally bright. I deliberately looked for xenons on the X1 as I had heard all the hype about them but tbh they look pretty on the X1 but they are not much better than normal lights with decent bright bulbs. I wonder if they have downgraded them over older units or installed lower power ones on slower cars?

I've had 2.0 too and whilst it did the job I needed it to, it was pretty ordinary as a drive. It also suffered from the clutch judder that so many 1 series manuals do. That drove me nuts so I ditched it and went auto which was on the cards for a number of reasons.

Got the 23d auto now and I think it's good. It's really capable even at speed on twisty roads, much more sure footed and performance is much improved with the twin turbo unit. Fuel usage is not brilliant with auto and 4x4. It's low to mid 30s average but it'll do for the moment especially now that there's a Z in the garage :)

unfortunately they don't look anywhere near as nice as on the new 1er which give out a nice white light on the halos as opposed to yellow on the Zed :(

Tim.

Envy, I think you and me seem to have the E89 love every day....even thru some of my issues with it....there is nothing I would change about it!!!

I thought they were meant to be self-levelling. Does it set this when you turn the ignition on, or is it constant adjustments?

They are self levelling but only to the extent that they keep the same setting, so if that is too high they will be constantly adjusting to keep them too high.

Only if they are too high, I presume the treetop lighting is only on full beam, so they could be fine. On dipped beam there is usually a nice clean cut off point.

i just got back from a night out, went to the pictures first and when i got out after the film (skyfall) it was looking stunning all by itself in the car park and then when i pulled up outside the local takeaway which was pretty busy, it got some nice stares lol

When I switch the ignition on I the dark my xeon's seem to "dip" down in height then come back to normal height. My E86 did this too and my mates 320d coupe also does this - anyone care to enlightening as to why?

This is the self levelling system.

You have two sensors in the car that work out how much weight you've got in it & automatically adjust the trim of the lights so they're not too high or too low. This movement or dance is how they set, that's all...

I fiddled around with my headlights, initially too high on dipped so turned the white adjusting hex shaped screws at back of light unit, so all ok dipped. But can't understand why main beams point at sky as others have said, thought it was just my car.
