X5 vs RR vs cayenne vs rs4/6

Just having a little look really.....
Having a zed as my only car isn't always too practical...and I could sometimes do with more space and I want to get into snowboarding or similar when I move up to mk...

I'd still want something sporty, maybe easier to drive but still pretty nice and posh looking

Just something smart :)

We've gone over the m5 dream but I couldn't risk the gearbox issue
I probably couldn't get much for my money but if you guys had around 20k to spend on something classy what would it be? Any of those? Any experience...?

Can you afford the fuel? Not being snarky, a genuine question.

I looked at an RS4 Avant as a DD and then I saw the fuel consumption (by looking at the computer, not the manufacturer numbers)

The one I looked at had been driven as intended regularly by an owner that could afford it and loved driving it. The fuel computer didn't appear to have been reset and it was in low double digits! (11mpg)

If you're keeping the zed, and can afford one, a diesel x5 will hold onto it's value. A discovery is another good choice.

Fuel is a big part of the problem....and as such I'd rather it was no worse than the zed

So an rs is probably off the cards....
And this would replace the zed....I think I'd like to have a car with more...presence?

If you're prepared to think outside the box a bit, how about a v10 Tuareg diesel? The R50 (or whatever the correct number is) has a bit of presence and I think it shares the floor pan with the Cayenne.

A RRSS will give you change from what you get for the Zed but will guzzle more fuel. Paza had one so could give you the low down.

I'd guess the X5 is probably your best bet on economy and residuals.

A very different set of cars to the Zed though.

Edit - a 335i M sport touring?

Touareg v10 is a very good shout!! I'll take a look

I just want a car with more panache really :) 335 doesn't really do much for me...

Rrs more costly to run than the m tho?

I'm going rather in the opposite direction than you to solve a similar issue. I do have a primary car (wife's 2008 328i) But As my Caterham is fairly rubbish even as a second car. I want to ditch the 328 as I'd be worried about towing with the US sourced auto boxes that BMW uses and buy something that can occasionally tow the Cat via a trailer. I do not want a giangantor SUV that will be rubbish on fuel while not towing the cat. So I have been looking at a Jetta TDI estate car. It can tow a pretty heavy load (1500Kg), Has great interior carrying capacity, Miserly on fuel. A new 2014 TDI sportwagon in the USA with a 6 speed, Satnav is only $29,000 USD/17,600 quid. The cat is the fun to drive make me look as cool as is possible car (a hard job really) But the primary car needs to be nice yet supremely useful. As I'm an old git and I'm not to worried about a posh everyday car.

I now use a X5 as my DD and the z is a garage king, it as a truly fantastic car, lovely to drive. I would try to keep the z or get a cheaper one as I think you will miss certain parts of what the z offers Adam.

I saw a brand new RS4 Avant parked near me in a remote part of Bluewater car park on Saturday afternoon - oh my, I was smitten. The wheels were gorgeous, and just packed full of wavy brake discs and massive callipers. Had a proper moment 8)

I'm averaging 15mpg in the VXR8 and couldn't care less!

The best move anyone can make is to have a brutal V8 in their life!!

+1

my last fill in the RS 6 was 12.5mpg... average of 15.77mpg... love it... no better sound on the road....

I would say x5 all the way. Brilliant 4x4.

I still think the the 2007 - 2013 m sport models look so much better than the new shape.
