X5 rims on the Z, for all those who thought it cant be done!

Cj10jeeper yea I get what you mean by that

Hunter id love to have the concave look all around but I dont think the 10 inch rears would fit on the front

Wattsie the wheels will be coming off shortly so im going to weigh my old 108s and these and post the results up

They don't quite work for me but respect to you for trying something different and for taking all comments on the chin. Some lesser members would have deleted their account by now after the amount of negatives.

Makes it look like a right bruiser.I quite like the look.A real muscle car look.Well done you for trying it out.I too think a shade or 2 darker would look ace.

cheers again for the replies, seems to be a few more people liking these than disliking them

Will weigh the wheels at the weekend once they come off the car & my old 108s go on, then once they are painted ill get more photos

Great look, keep them in silver

These are the second set of wheels recently which has flipparood my long established wheel preferences after Marius 6 series wheels - also

Great effort guys :)

ps. It also kind of reminds me of Audi TT's wearing Bentley alloys, which I strangely like, even though TT's are not my thing

well I finally took the wheels off the car so decided to weigh the wheels.

The 108s were 23.4kg per front & 24.2kg per rear wheel

and the X5 wheels were 25.4kg per front & 25.7kg per rear

Do you notice the extra weight?

My vmr's are probably slightly heavier then my 108's but i noticed it right away, especially braking.

Yea i do notice the extra weight on front wheels, the steering feels alot heavier, which I actualy prefer! I cant stand really light steering

Ive not noticed anything when braking though

I don't understand all the negative comments, they look great and unique!!
I don't see that there should be any major weight issue either?
Your talking a matter of a couple of extra KG's, less than the difference in some drivers on here :P
or a bag of shopping?

the problem is its unsprung weight, which makes a huge difference :(

But i like them too!

Are you kidding about weight?
Set aside the looks, which on balance I think most people really like.

These wheels represent an increase in unsprung weight of 7kg or another way 15%. That's quite significant. As posted it's unsprung weight, so has nothing to do with a bag of shopping.

Think of that weight as a gyroscope. Spin a kids toy one weighing <100g up and try to stop or turn it. Now try that with 7kgs spinning at the equivelant of 60mph to 100mph and try to stop or turn that...

It will have a significant effect on performance and has already been noted as weighting the steering, but add to that reduced acceleration, reduced braking and increased wheel hop under hard acceleration. The benefit (though not a Zed priority) is reduced noise and vibration damping.

In fact I have a set of 17s which once again transform the car from the 18s.

The downside is less traction due to less contact path at the rear tyres since they are skinnier which however I reduce by less camber.

Off topic, but this explains some mildly disturbing behaviour I noticed on my winter 17s the other day - 11 degrees (too warm for the tyres, I know), slightly damp but not wet roads, and gentle acceleration from stationary at lights = the traction control light flickered all the way into 2nd and I wiggled my way away from the lights at low speed. Not happened since, but I didn't notice this at all last year. Must be because I had an alignment done on my 18s in the summer when I had Eibachs fitted, haven't had it re-done for my 17s (does anybody ?) and so the camber has resulted in less grip. Logical if I'd thought about it

Still learning something every day
