I bought my father in law a lovely black 2011 40d X5 over the weekend as a 73rd birthday present....what a lovely car it is to drive. Ridiculous value for what I paid for it! :driving:

Anyone else had or got one of these?

I used to have a 2004 X5 4.8iS which I absolutely loved(mostly for the engine!). My brother in law has a 2016 X5 40d and I really enjoyed driving it and the 40d engine is a torque filled peach. 8)

I'm a really big fan of the X5 for sure.

I've got a well spec'd 2011 30d and love it. Does everything so well. Now done 70k miles, but still under BMW extended warranty. Recently thought about selling it as I don't need something so big now, but it's only worth £14k, so very difficult to replace withougt throwing a load of money in, so think I'll just run it until 100k when I can no longer put a warranty on it and see what happens.

We’ve had a 2011 40d for 41/2 years now and covered 60,000 miles in it. It’s the best all round, most versatile vehicle we’ve had, it handles pretty well for it’s size and has a decent amount of power. I’ve found it to have been been totally reliable and reasonable to maintain. The car’s been to the south of France every year we’ve had it, via Italy Germany and Spain and it’s superb for these journeys, you can drive for hours on end and arrive at your destination feeling fresh. The comfort seats help in that respect. Ours is on 21” wheels which I thought would make the ride too harsh but haven’t found that to be the case surprisingly.

What did you pay for it out of interest Angelus666? I’d like an idea of what mine is worth.

This was on the day of pick up and it still looks as good in my eyes. The disabled parking was down to the garage before anyone jumps in.

You're a braver man than me! :) I deliberately went for 19's... big fat 45 and 50 profiles.

Believe it or not I even picked up another set of 21s and put winter tyres on them!

That's nice! I got a bit of steal for the one I got, was up for £13500 and got it for £11750 after some negotiation. 80k miles Black with black M Sport on 20's with pan roof, heated seats front/rear, 7 seats and media package. A bit annoyingly it doesn't have folding mirrors, so wondered whether I could retrofit them for him?

Folding mirrors were only a £245 option, crazy not to tick the box. I don’t recall anyone on the Xdrivers forum retrofitting them, imagine it would be prohibitively pricey.

Ive been considering a X5 or X6, Ive driven a 3.0 X5 and I was impressed with it, I guess the X6 is very similar?

We have a 2010 40d X6 and its a cracking car.
Done almost 40,000 miles in just over 3 years and its been great.
Had a few niggles with daft things due to the electrics but all in all its been brilliant.
As already said the comfort seats are superb with something like 20 way adjustment.
Only downside that I can think of is the cost of tyres that most seem to say need replaced as a full set and will cost around £1k.

Another reason to go for 19's (285/45 & 255/50). I've just bought 4 brand new Goodyear F1 * rates run flats for £550 from Costco. My wheels are off the new F15 X5.

I don't think they look undersized if you look at my photos above. Big sidewalls are great, not just for comfort but I use it off road (nothing serious) now and again so don't need to worry about damaging the wheels.

Replacement will probably be the new X3 model in a few years, looks fantastic, just need them to come down in price.

I have 19" winters and hate having them on the car. Cant wait for the ice and snow to pass every year to get them off.

Haha, each to their own :D I hate over-sized wheels. Hence I downsized my 19's on the E89 to 18's.

My winters on the X5 are also 19's.
