Ok, what's the opinion on this?

Saw a couple of them parked in the dealers carpark today, (presumably waiting to be collected next week on 1st March), and have to say they did look like nothing else in the BMW range! I actually thought "smaller version of the X3", or "beefed up 3 series estate", but as I said they do look quite unique. I think the X1 was launched a few months ago but can't say I've actually seen any on the roads! :oops:

One of them was silver and the other was Marrakesh Brown (looking at the colour choices on the BMW website). The brown one really stood out and they have quite a striking front end. I think if I was buying one it would have to be the 4 wheel drive xDrive (rather than sDrive), although not sure I could ever see myself really wanting one to be honest!
 
My dealer has a white one. Is ok-ish I guess, not quite my scene.

Something else I've never seen, but would certainly ask for the debadged version
 
I find it rather ugly. For some reason BMW has decided to enlarge the kidneys on their latest models to comedic dimensions making them look very pig-like from the front. At least to me. The Z4 pulls it off but the 7 and the X1 are quite off putting..

Anyway i've seen the X1 up close and it's quite a compact car, a bit larger than a 3 estate which is what its really based on, instead of the 1. Snug inside too, not much legroom in the rear but OK. Also 4WD is an optional extra if i'm not mistaken but still, it gets good reviews and it's a new BMW.

Overall i'd prefer one to the X5 but mostly because i hate giant, road hogging SUV's...

another BMW decision which makes me think they are slowly losing it.

as if the x3 wasn't bad enough, the launch something even uglier and more pointless the x1. I've seen one in the flesh and it looks odd ! not quite as add as the 5gt though ? what's going on ?

All this new competition poses a big challenge for the X3, which is one of the larger compact SUVs. Because of that, and in line with an announced expansion of its model line, BMW has confirmed a new X1 to slot below the X3 in size and price. The new baby-Bimmer SUV will be based on the company's 1-Series compact car. Sources expect the X1 to reach U.S. dealers in calendar 2011. Unlike the X3 and larger X5, the X1 will be sourced from Europe.

How much is this thing ???
 
I guarantee my Gf will love it, she's looking for something to replace her ML320 Benz. check back with me next year, i'll probably have one... :oops:

'deactivate' her eyes, use a standard HB pencil.
 
Can't do that, she's pretty handy to have around, cooks, cleans, does laundry, all the stuff I used to do. Besides, if she's got something new she'll stay out of my Zed. What's more important here ?? :D :D
 
It's just an SUV, you put dirty dogs, filthy boots, rocks, bags of sand, dead partridges and pheasants, etc. bury it in snowbanks, as long as its comfy and it works I don't really worry. The Zed makes a statement and is very nice, an SUV is just an SUV. :D
