Wynnes injector and petrol cleaner...seems to work

I bought some of this a while ago, and while trying to get my car booked in for a terraclean ( just too busy to sort out a mutual date) I added this. I only bought the car around 4 months ago, and although it was very well looked after with superb service history and a stack of bills, the only thing left to clean where the injectors and fuel system. Now, I know what you're thinking..."it's all snake oil etc" (and me too, to be honest) I gave Wynnes cleaner a go. It's gone up to 37mpg average instead of 29 and the slight flat spot while giving it some has vanished.... so definitely does something. 3.0 manual, so not bad at all!

Just a heads up for a small outlay of £15.

I used the wynnes hydraulic valve lifter treatment a few weeks back as I daily my Zed to work that is only 2 seconds away. I've also seen noticeable improvements so might give this a try too.

yep, just add the whole lot to a full tank, i added half to half a tank, twice, as i never fill up more than half a tank.

I always use Archoil petrol and oil treatments- they're more expensive than the Halfords/Wynns stuff but science behind them is impressive and I've always had good results and my exhaust tips are always really clean, unlike most cars! My Coupe uses no oil ( if electronic gauge is correct!) between yearly 6000 mile changes.

I get them from Powerenhancer who occasionally have some 20% deals on.

Good post!

I put a bottle of this in when I filled up the other day to see if it would do anything, good to hear it's worked for others!

I've added some today too so I'll report my findings when I've ran it through.

If your engine internals are nice and clean then surely this ain't going to do much. If they are not then I can see how it could improve things. Using decent petrol is a similar principle.

I use archoil fuel additive. Cheaper per litre than the ultimate brands of fuel. Strangely enough, it smells the same as shell v power!

Fifth Gear did a series of tests to restore power to a well used motor and the biggest increase was a dose of Redex it got 3 or 4 HP back.
Cheap and it works.

My personal experience has got best results from diesels as they are inherently dirty.
I've used archoil on the z4 for the last 4 1/2 years and no ill effects, and mpg has been 32-36 depending on driving conditions.

In my opinion, using an additive and normal fuel is the same as using the super duper fuel, (open can of worms).

And if you use both at the same time? (Another can of worms)

I assumed my Alfa was completely unloved when I bought, so as part of me making it as reliable as I could, I did a few basic maintenance items.

I did a full service, cambelt, water pump service, replaced/refurbed EGR, new tyres, new discs & pads, etc.

I've put Wynnes diesel version in the Alfa...didn't improve performance or economy (53mpg over 2000 miles).

Had the car Terracleaned...didn't seem to make any difference to performance, but economy dropped by 3mpg (50mpg over 2000 miles) and the car stank of chemicals for a few weeks.

After 6 months the average MPG is back up to its normal 53mpg.

I only use Shell (closest) or Costco (cheapest) diesel.

Wynns petrol treatments are similar to most other brands and contain various solvents, if your injectors truly are gummed up (that's a big IF on modern engines with good Euro fuels) then the solvents would definitely clean things if used neat, but once diluted in fuel is questionable.

They also contain anti-knock octane boosting ingredients including Naptha which temporarily raise the octane rating of the fuel, this will give sharper pick-up and a couple of ponies whilst it lasts giving the impression the clean has worked.

These cleaners are frequently blamed for damaging fuel pumps so are not advised for long-term use.

Here's some Geeky data on some brands, if you want to know whats in any chemical 'stuff' google the product name and "MSDS" (Material Data Safety Sheet)

Techron Concentrate
Distillates, hydrotreated light < 50 %weight Aka: Paint thinner(oil based)
Stoddard solvent < 35 %weight Aka: dry clean solvent, white solvent
Solvent naphtha, light aromatic 5 - 10 %weight : zippo lighter fluid
Benzene, 1,2,4-trimethyl- 95-63-6 1 - 5 %weight : powerful toxic solvent
Xylene , powerful solvent

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GUM OUT INJECTOR CLEANER
Chemical Percent
Trade secret or proprietary formula < 1 ( secret #1)
Petroleum distillate(s) (unspecified) 40-70 ( most likely paint thinner)
Detergent/Inhibitor mixture 1-10 ( secret #2 )
Isopropanol 30-50 (rubbing alcohol, GAS DRYER "CH3CHOHCH3")

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seafoam ingredients:
1 PALE OIL 4229 40-60% = A base or process oil refined until its color = yellow.
2 NAPHTHA 20 25-35% solvent powerful , common in all good injector cleaners. Zippo juice !
3 IPA 125 10-20% = Isopropyl Alcohol (rubbing alcohol), Useless in gas , cuz it already has tons.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"GM TEC" ingredients:
2-BUTOXYETHANOL, a paint and ink solvent , used even in Clorox cleaner 409
Naptha, , raises octane rating of gas, , simular to Zippo ligher fluid. Coleman camp fuel.
4-METHYL-2-PENTANOL, (aka:Methyl isobutyl carbinol) used as a lacquer paint tinner
9-OCTADECENDIC ACID.(aka:Oleic acid, found in Olive oil) ( this acid is interesting)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BG-44k:
Light Aromatic Solvent Naphtha , ( Zippo lighter fluid)
1, 2, 4-Trimethylbenzene , commonly found in up to 7% by volume already in Gasoline.
Xylene ,(1,2-dimethylbenzene & 1,3-dimethylbenzene & 1,4-dimethylbenzene), xylol , powerful solvent
Cumene ,(isopropylbenzene, ) powerful solvent, raises octane of gasoline.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
GUNK , RADIATOR SPECIALTY COMPANY, FUEL INJECTION AIR INTAKE CLEANER
2-Propanone 30-60 % aka: Acetone
Ethylbenzene >10 % a powerful solvent
