I have never accepted the 'art pushing boundaries' argument, which can be used to cover a multitude of strange, sometimes perverted behaviours. Society collectively defines the boundaries which, agreed, can be unclear and subject to interpretation, but using dead bodies isn't IMO acceptable, whether they are animal (Hirst) or human (von Hagens)
 
Okay but if art didn't push boundaries we wouldn't have the impressionists, art as in life has to move forward whether we like it or not.

For me I do see the beauty in many of Hirsts works, the diamond skull is breathtaking in its audacity.
 
I like cats, there just does'nt seem to be any boundaries these days everything is a f*cking joke.

I would agree that painting has evolved over the centuries because of individuals challenging the boundaries of the previous materials, techniques and formulaic conventions, but using material that is still recognisable in its original form and which doesn't push boundaries but rather ignores them and is just being used to shock, is just being used for self-aggrandisement.

BTW - not a fan of the skull, bit too blingy for me :P

Just wrong and probably achieved his aim of getting publicity by doing such stupid and to many offensive stuff.
Doesn't bother me personally, just think he's a tasteless idiot.
