WTF - Nav display options vanished!

Hi all,

Bit of a strange one this. :?

Whilst out for a drive yesterday a traffic announcement came on quite loudly, so I ended up pressing a few different buttons to shut it up. :x

I stopped somewhere briefly and upon returning to the car and switching the radio on, my nav screen display has altered!! :o

I now have the Telephone and BMW Assist option missing from the menu screen..!!!!

What's happened here? Anyone encounter a similar thing..?

Also, I can't get the display to go into Bluetooth pairing mode any more to try and pair my new phone (I've done it before no problem). Do I need to reset the pesky thing..? How do I delete my old phone from the system? The manual I have is the one with the red phonebox on the cover, but that only covers i-drive cars..?!?

Are the two issues connected..? :?

Cheers!

This happened to me yday too!!! But when i stopped the car and got in it later in the day all was fine again!!

Did the navigation colours change by any chance? If they did, the system has done a factory reset.

No, the colours were as I previously set them, the blue as opposed to the sepia colour.

If I did a factory reset myself, what would that do? Would it mess anything up? Oh, and am I actually able to do a factory reset..?! :?

I've has similar - on two occasions lost BMW Assist and once also the telephone.

Disconnect battery for 10+ secs.

Shudder......

I'm driving to furthest Brittany via Normandy on Saturday, then back home via Le Mans I think I'll leave it alone until I get back..!! It's not essential and I can always ring BMW Assist via my mobile should I encounter any other issues..!! I don't fancy sparking (ho ho!) any other issues doing the disconnect..!!

No, no, no....stop it..!! If I end up getting my sockets out I'll find something else I fancy doing, then something else and before I know it I'm rushing to get it back together for my hols.....!!

I only started out changing the number plate bulb on my Impreza....

I then decided to have a pop at my towbar, then ended up having to pop to B&Q to buy a floodlight to finish it in the dark..!!

Will pulling the fuse for the nav have the same effect? I would have though it would?

If so, anyone know the fuse number..?! :D

It would force the sat nav to reboot but frankly I'd pull the battery so that everything from the radio to the ULF module for the phone is fully rebooted. All it does is zero's your MPG readout and date/time settings.

10mm socket and 10 seconds!!!

No problems x2. If you're paranoid google "disconnecting car battery" for fundamentals.

On my M it was a pain to get the plastic "screws" that hold the cover of the battery off - eventually ripped them out - PoS!

I've not got any issues with disconnecting the battery, just don't want to activate some self powered alarm or immobiliser that I can't switch off or jolt some other electrical gremlins into life.

I'm not sure why I'm that worried about losing the two functions anyway, my Nokia doesn't pair with the car and I couldn't get the BMW Assist to do anything anyway. I let it ring the operator once to try and initialise it and I think I got connected to the local Co-op or something. They had no idea what the devil I was talking about, so I just hung up..!!

I'm up the dealers tomorrow picking some bits up, so I'll mention it to them (after disconnecting it in the morning!).

Thank you ladies.

Battery disconnected earlier and display is now showing what it should. I just whipped the earth lead off for 30secs.

I'm tempted to nip up to the dealer anyway to get them to show me how to initiate the BMW Assist as I can never seem to get past stage 3. :poke:

Aren't forums great? It's mad to think I trusted two people who I don't know from Adam, one with an England flag and the other with some mad looking ginger bloke with a dodgy hat and a pipe as their sign in pics (I can't talk much either can I?!), when messing around with a rather expensive piece of machinery..!!

Top stuff..!!
