WTF BMW?

Ordered new trim for the door pull and I'm pretty sure while it is the same part number, it is not the same part.
The same for the door open handle.


The darker one being the original.

The guy at the parts desk said it has been discontinued blah blah blah.
Is that true? Does anyone have the same experience with this trim colour?
What, am I supposed to change every piece to the new colour because BMW couldn't be arsed to paint it the old colour anymore?

Interesting! I was also sure that I had seen darker ones but have never seen them side by side. I recently bought a pair that are the lighter colour, I would have preferred the darker ones but as you say there is only one part number for these so it looks like the colour changed at some point.

The new ones are horrible for marks/finger prints. Just touched and it looks like I've given it to the dirtiest 3 year old. And yes I did wash my hands
Not too pushed about the door clasps as they will get some sort of carbon on them but the door handles will not match the trim on the steering wheel/gear stick which is again the darker chrome.

The darker one is "chrome line" which I believe is no longer available, the one on the right is standard.

Hoops should match handles, like a woman's collar should match her cuffs. :lol:

I have noticed that the M door grabs are more highly 'polished' like the one on the right, than the ones on my car.

Perhaps you have chrome line bing. Have you put your vin in one of the online databases?

They discontinued the darker colour several years ago. Only choice now is the newer colour or spray your own.

Yeah I've used this in BMWs online ETK portal and that's the part numbers I got. Dealer confirmed also.

I recently bought some from navid.v - they are actually prefacelift covers that are a duller shade of silver than the ones I have... So I have not changed them over. Mine are definitely chrome line, bit of a pisser I now cannot replace them as I'd intended. I am sure that the chrome line ones were available when I bought the car.

FWIW - the part numbers on the back of my grabs and the ones I bought are the same too. Most vexing.
