I'm looking for a Z4 3.0 roadster (06-08) preferably the sports trim, under 60,000 miles. I would also consider a nice example of the 2.5si sport.

For the 2.5si sport, looking to spend 7-8k
For the 3.0, looking to spend 8-8.5k (9k if recently serviced and tyres are relatively new)

Do not want a silver one but other colours considered.

From recent personal experience, I think you'll be very lucky at that price on a 3.0Si with those sorts of miles. But good luck.

I appreciate that and after further research and insurance quotes etc. I've bought a 2.5si SE 39000 miles, red leather heated seats, 6 cd changer with a few other extras, fresh mot and service for 8.5k. Picking it up tomorrow. Any advice on whether warranty is worth it, mainly for the roof motor, and whether to go for this via bmw or another business?

Pre purchase checks and before you hand over your money - link in my signature may assist.

Warranty is a personal choice and difficult to advise. Zeds have proved generally reliable (with some 'roof motor and rear spring exceptions) and what you pay for a warranty may well more than pay for any problems you experience.
If you decide on a warranty then the aftermarket ones are as good I would suggest as the BMW one. Mondial I am sure run most manufacturer warranty programmes (as they do BMW) when out of the normal 3 year cover.

Warranty Wise is the one recommended by Quentin WILSON

Whichever way you go be sure on what they cover - ASK if they cover the roof motor in the event of failure. This is what is says on their website amongst other sections on excluded parts:

'Any Parts which are rusty, corroded or seized-up (such as catalytic convertors), Parts blocked up with carbon (such as EGR valves and DPF filters). Parts which have suffered Breakdown or Failure Due to Wear and Tear due to flooding or water ingress, de-lamination, condensation, freezing, burning, melting; a lack of or incorrect coolant, lubricant or fuel; blockage due to swarf or sludge; Parts which are electrically overloaded due to incorrect use of welding, starting or charging equipment; any fuel, fluid, coolant or oil leak not specifically included within Your Plan.'

The section on damage caused to parts by water ingress (irrespective of a design fault or failure) would appear to exclude the roof motor. But as above ASK b before you purchase.

As Alan says...some after-market warranties are just as good as the "BMW" ones given by Mondial..others are poor.

I got 12 months with Safe & Sound Warranty as part of the purchase deal on my car and decided to take out a further 2 years on top of that as they were offering a very favourable rate if taken out at the same time as the initial 12 months.

Congratulations on the new car! :)

Cheers for the info, I will be scrolling through your buyers guide before handing over the rest of my cash as anything not mentioned/as described would award me my deposit back or be good leverage for negotiation. The car company hasn't mentioned any warranty options with me yet so I will have to see what is said tomorrow following the second viewing and test-drive.

I may try to purchase a roof cover sooner rather than later too, though we're now coming out of rainy season. It is England after all. Will create an intro thread in due time.

The garage have to provide three months warranty I believe.

Many have changed the roof motor themselves, so if you're handy with spanners around £300 will fix it. £600 at an Indi will fix also, so might be worth putting warranty money aside instead.
