WTB: Roof motor

Hi all,

This is probably a long shot, but hoping someone on here may have, or know the whereabouts of a replacement roof motor.

Mine has been whining, and straining to lift/retract the roof for some time, and has now suddenly died. (Typically just as the weather starts to improve!) Unfortunately, I'm skint at the moment, and dot have warrenty so will be replacing the motor myself.

If anyone has one for sale, or know where there is one available. New or Used. (If used preferably post 2005) Please let me know.

Thanks

Take a look at Tommo's thread below about this issue. If the cause of the problem is the same, he experienced that you might use your own old roof motor.

Good luck

Thanks for that.

Yea hoping I can follow ShipKiller & Tommo's guides, and do the same.

I'm reuctant to try and fix, as I really dont want to ever have to repalce it again, therefore keen to fit a brand new, or at least new style roof motor.

My worry would be that I take all the effort to fix, it works for 6 months and dies again, requiring the work over again.

Its 4-5 hours work, (thats only because of taking it really slow to make sure I was following shipkillers guide perfectly).

Once the motor is dry, hook it up to a battery pack (comething like a portable car battery starter) and you will know instantly if your motor is still dead or not.

The motor is not at fault.

The fault is the 'Sound Insulation', (read motor housing/cover). In the 03-05 model years, these housings were not sealed except by a piece of tape, letting water in.

If you go back and read my How-To, you will see I sealed the damn thing so it will not ever fail from water intrusion again...AND made sure the drain holes were clear of debris.

Still looking for a replacement roof motor if anyone has got one, or knows of a breakers or salvage yard somewhere which may have one.

I've got some time off work coming up, and it would be perfect timing for replacing the roof motor. Keen to try and catch the last of the summer with a working roof.

I'm ideally after a replacement, as I dont want to risk having to repair all over again if the current motor dies after the quick fix.

Thanks

Not much use to you but mine is still working better than it ever has since I bought the car. I drop the roof at least 2-3 times a day every single day so it does get some fair usage.

Thanks Tommo - If I dont manage to get one by the time I'm off work, I will follow your lead and repair.

At least it would save me some cash.

Did you replace the sound insulation/casing with a new one, or just dry it out?
