Hi Guys,

Looking for a Gap-Tech module for the E85 roof.. anyone got one for sale or can point me at the cheapest place to make a purchase?

Infact, are there any competitors out there or is everyone using Gap-Tech?

Thanks,
Tom

You can do it with Carly, which is about £75. Use Honey to check discount codes.

Mine was coded in when GM5 went in for repair

I’m not sure that’s 100% correct. I think that might only apply to post facelift cars circa 2006. Someone will correct me if wrong

Depends what you need it for

Gap tech is good as it makes the roof one press operation instead of having to hold the button on the console or the key

You can code the key to open the roof via Carly and I’ve got that here if you need to use

Also I see you’re in South Yorkshire, this guy can code it in via GM5 (he did mine when he repaired it) and it may be good pre emptive repair if yours hasn’t been repaired before

Yeah, I'm looking to have the roof open and close on a single press.. Do you know if this would also activate the car to open the roof from the key or will that require Carly?

There is a sequence from the key (lock/open/open if I recall) that enables it to open from the key

I saw one for sale on Facebook marketplace for £50 earlier but new from gaptech I think they are around £80

On mine (coded via GM5 which I think would be same as Carly) you simply hold the unlock button and it’ll open the car and take the roof down. Same with locking it.

When coded via Carly etc it only offers roof up / roof down by holding the lock or unlock button.

If you want one touch operation as well as open / close from key (without having to hold key!) you will need GapTech.

My Gaptach went bad after a few years' use, so I'd be a bit wary about buying another.

I'd buy one of these if they weren't so flipping expensive:

They are a much neater plug and play solution, rather than having to tap into the car's wiring.

One major drawback for just coding the comfort roof option in the GM5 module is that it needs the signal from the key continuously. It seems that the signal is often not stable enough, causing the roof opening/closing to stop so you'll need to go back to the car to solve this. This will, of course, depend on the distance etc., but in general a "one-touch" option is more reliable.

I have bought the XCarStyle module for the roof, see link below. It is more expensive than the Gaptech module, but it also allows the roof opening and closing while driving. I find this feature quite helpful as you don't have to fully stop. You can set the maximum speed at which it allows opening/closing at 35, 45 or 55 km/h. The latter works fine for me.

I shyed away from installing the gaptech mod after I read about multiple accounts of it going bad and causing other issues.
I also stopped using the Carly-encoded keyfob mod due to the power drain on the keyfob.
No big deal expending the 10 seconds or so it takes to keep your finger on the button or key in the lock to drop/raise the roof.

That looks like a nice set of features, I found it a real nuisance to stop completely, press the (GapTech controlled) button before I could set off again. With normal operation, it willl not allow you to close the roof even when almost at a stop.

Agree. That is why I thought the extra money for the XCarStyle would be worth it and to me it definitely is! I use the feature quite often :)

It is a bit of work though to install it (couple of hours), but it is quite straightforward to do.

But it is worth it when you drive in the rain in slow traffic and cannot close the roof :D
