Has anyone out there got a set of front Brake carriers that fit the 3.0i model. I am looking at up gradeing the front brake on my 2.2 and it seems that all i need to change to fit the bigger rotors from the 3lt is the carriers

Get a set from an E46 as they will be far more common.

Can't remember which model exactly but one down from the 330 should do.

Find your part number on real oem for the 3.0i prefacelift, then cross reference that part to all the BMW's that used it.

Sold mine to shooter in France doing a similar conversion to you, when I upgraded my 3.0i to post facelift 3.0 Si spec. although I thought he had to change calipers too?

If you use the carrier from the 330 you can fit the same size discs as the facelift 3.0 Z4. 330mm rings a bell, might be 325mm.

Yes indeed that's the conversion I did. You can use E46 330 petrol or diesel, but need to get carriers and calipers.

You should really upgrade the rears too to maintain balance if you do this change on the lower engined models (3.0 pre and post have the same rears). You'll also need minimum 17" rims to take the conversion

Thanks for all the replires, On the How to do section the post on the upgrade for your brakes tell you that the E46 carriers are the same, i have checked the part numbers and it seems my best bet is to use the E46 325i/328i carriers, my aim is to fit bigger discs so when i fit my new rims the disc dont look so small behind them, the brakes themself on the 2.2 are very good anyway. I need to fit new discs and pads anyway and the cost is much the same on the 2.2 as the 3lt, so if i can find some carriers it is werth doing, For intrest the stealers wont £120.00 per side for new carriers and thats with 10% discount

You can buy a complete set of callipers and carriers for less than that. In fact, why don't you, buy the callipers and carriers. You can clean them up and paint them while off the car. Get the BMW refurb kit for them too.

Then, clean you old ones up and flog those when the new ones are on, get a few quid back.

The carriers are quite hard to come buy on their own. That said, I did see some on eBay recently.

Phone any breakers yard that advertises and breaking whichever model you opt to go for. They generally have them lying around as people need spare calipers, rarely carriers.

If you choose to uprate calipes then as for them to throw in carriers which they'll likely do for the extra post.

I have just done the bigger (330mm) brake conversion on my 2005 3.0i se,and have the carriers from the original calipers for sale now,if u want them. (one of the calipers was sticking,or u could have them too;but u can get good refurbed calipers from budweg/with a 2yr warranty far cheaper than bmw).
PM me if u want them,
and u can have the carriers from my 3.0 for £30 the pair plus postage(which will need to check/tho should be around £10 or less).

P.s,i will happily throw in the Calipers from my 05 3.0i as well,if u want them(f.o.c). 1 is in good working order/the other will just need refurbing/if u want them;just cover the extra postage and they are yours.
You will probably notice a good improvement from 2.2 to the 3.0(05),as i did with 05 to 330 calipers, etc. a decent bit of extra bite

On the same subject,i also have a pair of 330 Calipers, without carriers, which u can have for £80 the pair/tho u will need to source your carriers for these yourself, tho u will need a minimum of 18" alloys to accomodate these.

If u are interested,i have got a pair of EBC Redstuff pads, which still have 80% life left in them, that have only done 7500mls,to suit 2005 3.0i brakes.
cost me £50 new,u can have them for £30 (plus p n p).
PM me for more info.

Nope, no need to change the calipers, 2.5i and 3.0i share the same calipers (on the front, that is). Brake discs have teh same thickness, only the diameter changes.
