WTB Android Tablet to use with BMWhat Software

I am interested in seeing how effective the BMWhat App is for fault codes and coding. Unfortunately the implementation is very limited if you use either an iPhone or iPad (which I do) so was thinking of getting an Android Tablet to try with that, but as I am a cheapskate I only want a very cheap one in the first instance for an initial trial.

So can any one help, I guess it would need to be running a fairly recent version of the Android OS and must have a USB socket as I intend to try with a D-CAN cable.

I just received my USB converter to use it on my HTC One. Only tried it on my 1 series, but it worked although most features are disabled due to using a cable (on E87)

As a result I've ordered a bluetooth OBD.

USB is standard on most tablets as it is used for charging the device. Check the requirements of the App for android versions.

I have a cheap tablet around somewhere in the office, I will try it with that.

Doesn't it need to be a host mode capable USB port for this to work?

Yes, but very few tablets have the correct port built-in so you usually have to buy a USB OTG adaptor like this one for Samsung tablets

Some USB interfaces on tablets don't support host mode. Those are just basically just adapter cables. You still need to be sure the tablet supports host-mode USB.

Sorry, I was agreeing with you that they need to support host mode - I don't know of any tablet with a USB A port built-in, but I said 'very few' just in case there are some with it
