Wrapping

No, as it's not a change to the car's original colour - i.e. the original colour is still there.

If it was repainted then that would be a different matter.
 
I always wonder about wrapping and how it look around the door shuts etc . make sure you post pictures. :thumbsup:
 
Wrong. The DVLA require notification of the colour change.
Here's a letter from the DVLA when a friend wrapped his XF recently:

I quote the DVLA:

The register maintained by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) essentially exists to assist in revenue collection, road safety and law enforcement. The Police and other enforcement agencies rely on the DVLA record for all vehicles-related investigations. It is therefore paramount that the information stored on the vehicle register is accurate and up to date.

DVLA records details given by vehicle manufacturers at first registration. Any changes to the vehicles details must be notified to DVLA by law.

By covering the entire vehicle in a coloured adhesive/vinyl wrap, it is DVLA’s view that the colour change should be recorded.

It might also need to be reported to your insurer because their records should reflect those of the DVLA
 
Are you sure? I rememberin reading somewhere a full wrap is equal to respray to a different colour and you have to notify dvla!
 
Stug - re your question about door jambs, etc. a friend had his done and I went over it with a critical eye and could find no paint. All the jambs, sills, etc were done and that was in Lambo orange, but it makes it an expensive job to get such a finish.
 
That's very strange as every wrapping firm says you do not need to tell the DVLA. someone's got it very wrong?
 
every bobby who did a quick check on the vehicle would be pulling you over to check it

Interesting conflict of DVLA responses. The one I reference relates back to August 2011, so a fairly recent opinion.

Guess it remains down to the individual to decide what to do.

Question is what did you ask them exactly, and do the DVLA state a period of time for temporary colour change.
 
Personally, I would let them know the colour had changed, save you getting pulled over all the time. And when you take it off, tell them it's changed again.

Unless things have changed - I didn't think the V5 recorded things like this, so it couldn't affect resale value or anything like that, and last time I did it, I'm sure it never cost anything to get a new V5 in the new colour?
 
typical government body, they have no idea of the rules themselves

Grey is just a shade between black & white anyway, so you could always say it was very light grey :P

Mine's listed on the V5C as 'RED', but most people would say it's black - so it's not going to help at a roadside check.

My problem would be that if selling the car, and if someone did a hpi check..it would flag up as additional imformation..which doesnt look good to the buyer.....
