Wrapping door handles. Sorry another thread.

Chaps, I need a little advice. I had my first attempt at wrapping. Turned out alright however I'm going to redo them. My problem is they were scratched before, the drivers side is worse. It's the paint that was on the plastic so nothing too deep. However after wrapping it, it's gone with the contours of the scratch. Being a little bit of a perfectionist I want to do it properly. How to I remove the damaged paint to I have a clean smooth surface? It's actually not that bad but not being happy with it I'm going to give it another go, but the drivers side is so pitted and scratched in the paint I know it'll look guff!
Here's some pics of my problem. I think looking at the indentations I may have put it back upside down if there is a wrong way up!? Also the gear knob (auto) has been scratched. By ideas on how to get the silver bit off so I can wrap that too?
Cheers guys!

Or get two decent, unscratched handles from a salvage yard. :D Gearknob...don't know as mines a manual.

I spent about 2 minutes in total prepping for my handles for a wrap and they came out brilliantly...

The wrap itself will hide a multitude of sins so you don't need to go mad with prep. I used the 3M carbon fibre look stuff.
For example the standard dash and consoles trims in my car were brushed aluminum with contours in from the factory. You would never have guessed that after wrapping as you cant see them.
As for your gearknob, maybe its just the photo but the leather looks worn as well so it may well be easier to just buy another.

Don't even try getting the knob apart without breaking the clips - it's pretty much a one-time press fit. See this thread, where I destroy my old one :D

As for the handles, I have a pair in good nick from a pre-facelift - they may not match the silver in your car as sometimes they seem different, but they will be smooth enough to wrap as they're not marked at all if memory serves. They cost me £35 including postage a while back ; one of the clips at the bottom is broken (not by me) so I'll take £30 including postage for them if you want them ? There's a thread with pics of the, somewhere, I'll dig it out.

Here's the thread with pics of the door handle covers :

Like I say in the thread, the bottom clip on one of the handles in my old car was broken and it made no difference. Let me know if you want them.

Oops!
It's ok thanks though, wrapping them give me a little job to do of an evening for the sake of a couple of quid. Keeps me out of trouble from the wife too!

I'm now sanding them down with wet 2000 and 3000 grit, so watch this space.
The leather in the gear knob looks worse than it is, I'm wondering if I can get away with doing the wrap whilst in situ?

Well the handles are done, putting back on in the dark was interesting! Didn't quite clip in at the top by a mil or so, could that be due to vinyl on the back? Not bad though for my first go really. Keep thinking what now! Apart from one tiny bubble which rest in the underside, which you can't see I'm pretty happy with them!

Good job. If you're bothered by the bubble you can just stick a pin in it

Door levers - door card off job, not hard to get it off though, there is a guide on here somewhere.

Great job on the handles

I'll have little search tomorrow, thanks! Hour and a half and well worth it, and well worth redoing the first one again and sanding it down!

Any ideas on how to do the door levers out of interest?
