First wrap with Gorilla tape of the spike that protrudes from the bottom of the rear window - in order to reduce rattles - was successful. Actually, perhaps too successful, insofar as Gorilla tape is a bit soft and deforms and then sticks as it goes into the slot. ('Ooh, Matron.')
Anyway, the indy has re-wrapped it with metalised tape, so the spike slides in and out more easily, but still works.
As a member has said, it's a pity BMW didn't design a plastic sleeve to go around the spike and/or line the slot to do the job. It wouldn't have been difficult.
