WOW I actually replaced my rear springs myself!!!

Hi Guys

OMG I actually did it

The thing I struggled with was where to put one of the axle stands but anyway I sorted that after a fair while and from start to finish it took me 2 hours which I know is too long but as I don't do this sort of thing normally I was extra cautious

I put the springs side by side before I swapped them and they looked the same height yet when I finished the job I looked at the wheel arch gap and it was huge to what it normally is!!!!

I was very depressed thinking they had given me the wrong springs but I thought I should take the car out and as soon as I moved the car I heard noises and it was obviously seating itself as when I came back the gap was normal phew what a relief. It does feel very satisfying doing that myself. I am a complete novice at anything like this so if I can do it anyone can do it

Well done really is very straightforward job, fronts are tougher but do-able. I know what you mean about points for axel stands though, not that obvious or easy on a Z4!

Err hard to explain but I know it was on something solid but it wasn't easy placing them as I jacked the car up at the rear where the two struts bolt onto.

Good work and well done you you have done it and done it right you also done it safely most important thing of all. When I was a kid a guy down our road had his car fall on him. It was game over for the poor guy you can't be to carful.

I just did mine rear springs last night! front springs today which should be a bit more of a challenge...

the shop was going to charge me 4.5 hours to do all 4! I did my rears in a little less than two hours on the driveway so i figure i'm doing pretty good. Also, now that i've done it once it should go faster to swap back to normal height for the winter.

The front is a different ball game, just make sure you have spring compressors with a deep reach as the spring is fatter in the middle , mine wouldn't work so had to make a tool !
