Would you replace all the tires?

looking at a 2014 with 9k miles on it. Dealer says they did inspection and the tires look fine, no cracks. In service date was August 2013 so I'm a bit skeptical that the tires are ok. I think they should be replaced but would appreciate your thoughts and experiences.

Best... Steve

Just my thoughts you can't put a price on your safety. For peace of mind if it was me, with their age I would replace even if they looked ok. But then again it depends on how you plan on using the car. Local trips around town maybe ok. But if express way higher speeds, then would replace.

I agree. 'It looks fine' from the perspective of a salesman's Mk1 eyeball is not good enough. Nine year old tyres that have not even revolved many times by the look of that mileage.
I'd say replace them, or walk away, or negotiate a decent discount.
In fact, the third option may be the best, cos if you get them to agree to replace they'll stick cheap crap on. Better to save some cash then get the tyres you want.

theyre certainly past their best eh :? I'd be looking for new tyres as part of the deal or a substantial enough discount to replace would be better as they'll probably fit whatever is the cheapest available to them

I would replace them, get the company to give a discount and get some NRFT - some decent deals out there.

Thats little bit of rubber is the only think keeping your car on the tarmac

Much appreciated - that is exactly my thoughts - the tires are the only thing between me and destruction and I always err on the side of safety. BTW - it was the mechanic who said they did not see any sign of cracks, not the sales guy but either way, I trust my gut instinct.

Thanks.. Steve

Think it will be a 'yes' from everyone TBH.
8-9 years is a long time for tyres to be exposed to UV, heat and cold especially if they have been sat idle for long periods.

Yes, yes, yes.

A quick google can find many instances of 9/10 year old tyres being blamed for serious accidents.

A 2014 with only 9,000 miles is, I assume, not going to be cheap. You're not buying a banger. Discount or new (good quality) tyres is a must.

If it’s a main dealer it’ll be even worse, they’ll stick new run flats on it

OP, the answer is yes get some deal to replace them, they’re too old irrespective of how many miles they’ve done.

Stick new ones on all four corners, don't rely on them, they will look for the cheapest option and you will regret it. Ask for discount and get some decent ones!

I guess the default tire on it is the Bridgestone Potenza. I'm in the US - if I wanted to stay with the run flats (I know, I know) is there any other option staying with the same size? Car has the M Sport package.

Thanks....

Not tried them but the new Pirelli run flats are getting good reviews…………….. for run flats :tumbleweed:

Do a search for online tires (tyres in the UK). For a given size you should get run flat options. Most of us are in the UK so difficult to transpose, as you may well have different models and names of tyres (tires).

Wait for the 'ditch run-flats' comments :P

Simply email the tyre manufacturer for the answer to this. Fact is no one here knows the answer, tyres dont have a sell by date and their life depends on many things UV etc.
manufacturer knows best

Goods and commercial vehicles can’t pass a MOT if their tyres are over 10 years old, for me the same should apply to all vehicles.

No one knows if a 9 year old tyre is suddenly going to go pop at 70mph, not even the manufacturer. So why take the risk?

Yep, I'd be binning them too, replacing with new tyres regardless of what the manufacturer says.

This is the incident that sticks in my mind when talk of tyre age comes up
