Saw this on BBC's Traffic Cops yesterday (originally shown on Wednesday)

Would you have helped if you'd seen this going on?

I'm not entirely sure what shocks me the most, the fact that no one bothered to help them out, or, the fact that they all stood around, whipped out their phones filming it, just thinking "Wow, this'll look great when they show it on the news"

The guy eventually got 9 months in prison.

So people, what would you have done?
 
Not sure there was much anyone could have done to prevent the officers injuries. There are a lot of police in the US (my niece being one) That say most of the time. They do not want a bystander to help without her first asking for help. As when some one steps in voluntarily. The police might not be sure of who's side the volunteer is on.
 
I watched it on TV last night. There wasn't any point really where the cops looked like they needed help. The second cop just looked like he was struggling to get to grips with the guys as it all happedned so fast. We're all of different ages and physical condition so that needs to be considered but yes If the guy had been besting them I'd have helped out (the cops not the crim).
 
Have a lot of support for the police, and wanted to join in my late teens, but I'd have stayed clear, as I've tried to help a lone PC with a couple of aggressive youths/young adults a couple of times in the past and both times I've been warned off by the PC for 'interfering'.

You're derided if you don't help, and told to 'go away' if you try.
 
The cop said it all "People don't help each other so why would they help a policeman"

The gf is a cop and back in her day when she was in uniform she has had a couple of beatings and no one came to assist her even when a group of blokes laying into her Bastards :evil:
 
father in law was one of the main policemen from the first three series of traffic cops...the one they did in hampshire

and yes, i would def help....
 
i would of called the cops..... oh wait :D

from years of helping ungrateful people, i now just mind my own business and walk on.... unless it is someone vulnerable like a child or elderly person

cops have had more self defence training than myself so should be able to hold their own especially when there are 2 against 1, armed with batons, cuffs and mace!
 
At one time i would have helped, but personal experience has shown that whenever I needed the police, they have let me down, and turn up hours later.
so....You reap what you sow..

+1 used to be a bigger supporter of the police and felt they could do no wrong but having had far too many negative interactions with the police and seeing just how they can be I'd definitely think twice nowadays.

I can understand why the public didn't get involved in restraining the guy, but once he was restrained and that cop was just led on the floor, clearly proper fooked, you'd have thought that someone might have gone to check on him :?
 
It's a strange thing of what your brain urges you to do on the spur of the moment - & I had a situation tonight on the DLR

Bunch of mixed race school kids heading out of London, small Black kid sat down opposite hunched up, arms awkwardly crossed looking down. Couple of the older school kids asked if he was OK... was clearly in pain & didn't want to talk about it. Took me about 5 attempts to contact the school & only was able to leave an answer phone message.

If id been around in the video, would like to think I'd have stopped & offered the blanket to support the guys head, as of all the times I've communicated with the rozzers, only once did I get bad attitude & I'd never want to do their job.

That is different indeed, that is helping the police guy. I am talking about the restraining the guy and him being the one suing the person holding him down.
