Would you do it to save £20?

Hi all-had a right faff today ringing the stealers (but thats a different story/thread! )-asking about brake pad prices,i was quoted just under £100 for all front pads and a sensor plus £60 for fitting,on the other hand my indy has quoted £120 for pads and fitting, ive done them before on my e46 but for the sake of £20 should i bother?-i know some on here have gone for cheaper alternatives but i would sooner have oem ones-any thoughts?-thanks

Has your sensor tripped then? Otherwise not needed.

It takes me 15 minutes per wheel to do the pads, including cleaning the inside of the wheels which I want to do anyway.

No sensor not tripped -i told them i did not need one but they told me the price as they sometimes break when fitting the pads

With a price difference of £40 I'd choose the dealer if your not doing yourself. It depends how soon they need doing, I wouldn't do mine until it gets a bit warmer...

DIY always for brakes, such a simple jobs and as per PVR you get to clean and inspect other stuff at the same time

Am with you Liam its too cold for working on the zed at the minute!

Source your own pads - £100 is rather excessive! A set of front Brembos is only £30 or so. Sensor is meant to be £10 iirc.

I've had this in my bookmarks for ages, just in case I ever needed discs / pads: http://www.nextdaybrakes.com/info-part-finder?make=BMW&model=Z4&engine=2.0000&year=2007

Just get some pads off ebay, Brembo, Bosch, Mintex all good.

About £30 as said and you know you can do a propper job on it, grease your sliding pins etc while you're in there.

I would take off your rear discs too and give your handbrake mechanism a good clean out to save problems later on.

Andy

Ive got same model as you - Front pads (Mintex) £15 from LK Performance in Cleckheaton, Bradford, and Rears (Mintex) were £17. They got me the sensors too...about £13 each I think (you need 1 for front and one for back)

Also got rear disks there - was gonna get Brembo (rears) which were £83 but out of stock so they sourced me Bosche (Which are OEM I believe) which were more expensive (Than Brembo !! ) but they price matched

Look at the web site or call - good Guys. Had a mate who is Ex BMW mechanic fit the lot for £30 - About 2 Hrs inc disks (a swine to get off due to handbrake shoes and rusty one-piece disc/hub thing)

Brakes are a DIY job for sure. Sensor is £6 on eBay if you need one.

Def in the garage and heater on this week though.

Blood flows slower in this temperature when you cut yourself though :D

Thanks for the advice guys-it was an advisory from my mot,as i dont do a lot of miles i will wait until spring(hopefully just around the corner)-there is certainly a price difference there

An advisory means it doesn't need doing until at least after your next MOT
Really-i thought it meant it needed looking at before your next mot? :?
depends if there's a retest cost, and if it fails this time around...
