I dont think anybody on here is allowed to go to risky places armed to the teeth and if need be fight anybody to the death that wishes to harm them.
So you are right that there is a lot of people not daring to take a stand as all they would be is a target if the worst happened.
And as for a football stadium, they did try. What they think their plan was was to get inside with one explosive and when everybody made for the exits the other explosives would be set off outside.
 
It's a very fine line as to what is the correct thing to do , there's probably a greater chance of being killed crossing the road , but I'll respect anyone's decision as to what's right for them .
 
If it were just me I'd go without reservation. I flew into South Korea a couple of years ago from Japan when it was all kicking off. We could look out of our window in Tokyo and see the anti-missile batteries in the Royal Gardens.

However if it were my loved ones going then NO absolutely NO.

In a sense I agree with Paulwirral , yes to a degree the terrorists win but its all about risk vs consequence. Sometimes the consequence is too heavy even given the low probability.

I wouldn't say the terrorists have won at all if people are advised to stay away from high risk areas, its just common sense and why put yourself at unecessary risk. Staying away just means the terrorists haven't got what they want so who is the winner? End of the day its a mild inconvienience as these people will either be caught or killed sooner or later and then life can get back to normal.

Terrorists aim to strike terror into the hearts of normal people like us , if they disrupt your normal life they are winning . That's what they do , cause terror , stop tourism in a certain area of the world and they will cripple it and it's theirs for the taking .
There will be terrorism in the world as long as there's religion in the world , you'll never catch or kill them all , it's just the way the world is , and probably always will be .

Who is funding them ? Where is their money ?
That's probably the best way the civilised world can fight back.

You might get run over by a bus whilst crossing the road, but essentially you would take every step to avoid that happening. Its the same with anything in life, where there is risk, you try to minimise it. Hence I would not go to Brussels just now. Not for anything.

If its just ISIS you are looking at, it depends on how far back you go... a lot of funding to the Syrian opposition groups came from the Western Nations who were eager to unseat Bashir. When the opposition groups split, the arms and funding split with them. ISIS also gained a lot of funding and weaponry from the regions they took over in Iraq and Syria.

Additionally, there is a lot of support for a Sunni Caliphate amongst government and private individuals in many countries (Qatar usually gets the most attention on this one, link here)

ISIS is currently one of the richest terrorist groups in the world, estimated to earn $2bn per year from oil, donations, kidnappings etc. Cheap oil is easily sold through neighbouring countries.

Think I have to agree with what most before me have said, in that its just not worth the risk.

Keep your loved ones close by and take them for a nice day out to Stratford or something similar for a nice walk along the river.
 
As Brussels railway station was in news last night, with full military cover, I think the desire by Mrs PVR to go to Brugge (via Brussels with the train) was rather reduced as well.

Might end up as a few days in the Cotswolds for them instead ....
 
Brugge trip has been and was a great success. The change over in Brussel was something else apparently, with tanks and military being there.

Will never use Expedia again though - the battle for the refund was lies, lies and more lies. I dealt with the hotel direct who agreed on the refund in the end, but Expedia would not refund until I savaged them.
 
How long will it be (if ever) the drive through Europe will be punctuated with border crossing passport checks?

The sooner the better imho..as a brit i never really understood the taking down of borders as even though we are members of the eu we still have to take our passports everywhere anyhow and there is still passport controls at every eu airport ive been through
 
That is because we are not part of Schengen. When I travel within Europe, it is a hop on hop off service without any passports required.
