Just popped out to get SWMBO a few things and when I came back up the street spotted an Audi TT parked up brandishing a large TDi badge on the back of it.
Just got me thinking no matter how wrong it feels in a sports car would anyone consider a diesel powered Zed, especially in light of the success the oil burners are now enjoying on the worlds race tracks and the ridiculous amount fuel now costs.

we've got a turbo diesel TT..... probably the best car we've ever bought............. :fuelfire:

diesels are very good engines these days, but they are still a bit noisy urghhhhhhhhh

z4alfie, if you had t choose between the zed and the TT, which would it be?
 
To be honest if a car came along and i liked the way it looked the way it drove the interior looked and felt a good place to be sounded nice just like my Z does but it was a Diesel then YES

I love the Zed, its a totally different car, it gives me a smile on my face like nothing Ive ever owned before. However, the TT is much more responsive, drives like a 3 litre petrol with a turbo and feels solid compared to the Zed. I usually inherit the three year old motor when my other half upgrades. However, I will struggle to give up the zed in a years time. Despite the great feel of the TT
 
don't worry about the inheritance, i will take it of her for you, sticking with the zed is best for you

I wouldn't be totally surprised to see a diesel Z4 , BMW make the best diesel engines and certainly can get great performance out of them. A Z435di 0 -60 6.5 seconds and good MPG. Don't see why not.
 
I also have a 335d M sport coupe & a boy does i go ! Alot faster than my si & returns 42mpg !I always said i would never buy a tracker ! But the tracker goes well !lol
 
I had a 123d coupe before I got a company car 318d, I part exchanged the 1 series for my zed, but if there was a zed out there with the 2 litre twin turbo diesel engine from my 1 series I would definitely have had one. The engine in that car is amazing!!! You could drive it like a you had stollen it if you wanted to, but on a run it would get well of 50mpg without even thinking about it!

So in answer to the question yes I would have given it very serious thought.
 
Modern diesels are awesome, count me in!

That said if petrol prices were around 70-80p and weren't going to increase I would want a Z4 M still. Who can turn down an 8k redline attached to a car with over 4 cyl?
 
My mum has an E90 330d... feels much quicker off the line then my car.

I wouldnt mind a diesel.. but i still prefer the higer rev limits of a petrol motor.

but not a diesel Z4.

I don't know if any one read the sun yesterday, and did the transgender quiz, some of the tranny's were worryingly attractive, :o it would probably be similar to a diesel Z:

Not driven a recent diesel butI think I would still prefer the equivalent powered petrol version, ie, would take a 120i M Sport(170bhp) over a 120 Diesel M Sport(177bhp). Still find petrol engine cars handle better and the engine much more free revving. And the price of fuel is only one part of the story; an older diesel especially will be expensive to put right when it goes wrong (turbo, glow plugs, particulate filter fitted to newer diesels etc). Nobody wants to burn money but if they have the money will most likely prefer to drive a petrol engine car.
With the popularity of diesels, I wouldn't be surprised if the price differnce between the two fuels increases and if there is a fuel shortage garages will probably run out of diesel first :)

And what about LPG conversions?
 
just got myself a x5 35d(twinturbo), amazing, power 286bhp and great torque, nice drive, thoroughly enjoy it but dont think I would ever swap it for my M. yes something about 8.5k redline. I cant see my self changing my MR-so far my longest car, had it fover about 2yrs.
 
I dont think theres that much point, recent petrol engine technology seems to be advancing faster than that in the diesels.

For example the current 330i gets 38mpg combined comped to 46mpg for the 330d. That is knowhere near enough of a gap to justify losing the extra power and the 6 pot petrol sound.

The x23d engine is a peach, it combines high performance with high mpg. But a 4 pot diesel in a Z4 - i just couldnt do it..
