Would you buy it?

Would you buy an '04 3.0l Z4 with roughly 30k on the clock if it hadn't been serviced since Dec '05 when it had done 15k miles? e.g. No service history for 4.5 years? The dashboard display is saying that it is just ready for a service now.

4.5 years :o

any evidence of even and oil change?! brake fluid service is also every 2 years.

Sounds like a gamble to me :idunno:

Plenty out there...

I'm sure it is at an attractive price, but remember that when you come to sell it then you will have the problem of explaining such a long period without a service.

Services should be every 2 years, so the owner must have driven for some time with the computer telling them to get it serviced; it doesn't point to a careful owner, as gannet says there are lots out there with people trying to ditch their gas guzzlers!

Mine was serviced for the first and lat time in April 07, and isn't due for another 11.5k miles as I don't do many miles.

Private sale? Take a long look at who you're buying from. Dealer? Any decent dealer would think it worth their while to service first, or part of the deal, if only to raise the price. If they won't, what's going to happen if you get a problem after you've bought it?

I believe their has been a slight misunderstanding. Full history and reciepts are available since the pre - delivery check. including fluids and even brake pads. onboard computer still counting down and not reading 'service'. there are no gaps. :)

the onboard computer indicates next service not by distance but actual condtions.healthy mileage between the services show the vehicle to have been driven gently. :D

Have a test drive first. If you cannot find any problem, then book a full inspection with dealer at your own cost. If they find any problem, you can negotiate the price with seller.

As long as the car has had all the fluid changes should be OK you can check this with BMW just give them the chasis number.

I bought my 04 Jan 08 with 11.5k on the clock last oil change 07 06 (i did an oil change soon after but i do change oil every year) the car is now nearly 5 years old and only just coming up to inspection 1 now on 18k so would have thought the car you are looking at would have had its first inspection.

This is the problem when people have a Z4 as a 2nd/3rd car and only service it when the computer says so. If doing 4K miles per annum it will take 4 years to flag up a service unless they are aware of the 2 year limit which is easy to miss in the booklet. The brake fluid service would also put up a small clock on the display but its hardly a 'warning' as such - dunno why it doesnt spell out 'service brake fluid' instead of a silly icon.

If you like the car this could be a easy way to get the price down, its unlikely to have done it any real harm. I would get the engine oil, brake fluid, cabin filter, oil filter all renewed in the first instance.

At 30k miles I would expect the front tyres are worn, as are the brake discs and pads all round. Best check this out before committing to buy as those parts are not too cheap if done at a main dealer.

Hasn't this become an academic thread in that OP's question has been responded to by Pablo a few posts back who would appear to be the seller advising it is fully serviced, etc. Did I miss something?
