Would you buy a brand new Z4 if you had the chance?

In answer to the question in the thread. Yes I would and indeed I have. So far, I do not regret the decision. Hopefully I won't in the future.

How much has the experience of a new car cost you in reality.

I really have a soft spot for these cars but I think I am better off getting a second hand one. As was mentioned earlier, when the new model comes out (possibly 2016 as BMW tend to work in 7 year cycles), the second hand values will plummet further.

Can't see a PCP being any better value than new car and depreciation. Need to find a car that is towards the bottom of it's depreciation curve ideally.

Save up get a 2% then buy BMW approved and loose 50 % over three years.
Or
get a finance deal - the car depreciates at the same rate which is in the payments but you have the additional 5% for the privilege.

My simple logic.

Fortunately, money is not everything although I would agree, it can rent most things.

Why not wait 15 years or so and buy one for around 4k, should be quids in then

Tim.

Good advice. Or I could just keep the 16 year old car I have now and it would cost me nothing.... :P

You are missing the point, it would cost you no money.

If you don't have the cash to buy then borrow it by the cheapest possible method. A pcp deal might be the cheapest method if you consider the dealer input - but accept that whoever lends the money must make a profit on that transaction also.

Do the sums first!
While you're on, do the cost per mile to really scare yourself. :D

A salesman in a BMW dealership told me he buys his cars on PCP deals but accepts that he is paying the depreciation on a monthly basis but looks at the PCP for his car as just another houshold bill.

If I had the money I think I would go new if you could get the spec you want for 32k. Your problem is you do so phew miles, you aren't going to get much value from your car. But if you get new its no MOT's, you have a warranty and with your low mileage you won't need any new tyres or brakes. Also if you bought a 3 or 4 year old car now for 20 to 22k In three years time you won't loose a couple of grand, you'll probably loose 6 to 8 grand in depreciation over that time.

By the looks of it a 35i manual is a rare car in a second hand Z4 market saturated with 4 pot engines. If you can afford the initial outlay I think it will only cost you an extra 3 grand over 3 years than buying a second had car. And for me that would make it worth it.

Formula:
m2h x s£ / ^v = :driving:

(Mint condition second hand car x money saved / decent future value = happy driver)

Thanks for the comments.

So many differing opinions. Now wonder my head is cabbaged..!! :headbang:

Been watching the reviews on Youtube and the only thing that concerns me is a lack of feel reported in the steering. Does anyone else notice this or is it the reviewers being really picky.

I find the steering fine. I tried an M135i 2 weeks ago and that definitely had a dead feel to the steering and was overly light.

I have a 35iS which is different to a 35i but my memory when I drove a 35i was of a heavy steering feel not one of vagueness or something to be concerned at. (FWIW The 35iS steering is very much ok.)

People on reviews mention a drone on a 35iS exhaust making it unpleasant - if you searched here or owned one you would realise the reviews are rubbish as people love the sound of a 35iS exhaust ... being the BMW sports exhaust. It just shows how c*** some reviews are !

I think you have nothing to worry about re the steering.

IIRC My 35i was 48.5k new with all the options. If purchased today this would be well over 50K (before discounts).

I purchased it just over 4 years old for 16k. :driving:

Thanks S08. I am coming from a 390Hp Supra TT with a 4" backbox and a through pipe, so exhaust noise is not one of my worries. :D I actually put one of the cats back in for the MOT recently and left it in as the noise was sooooooo loud I didn't dare start it late at night or early morning. Been waiting to get pulled by the fuzz but been lucky so far.

I am now looking for something more refined, newer and hopefully less maintenance.

The search continues but the thought of a new one is still lurking.

What mileage did it have on it Jimbo and have you taken out a warranty?

64,000.......BMW Warranty is £44 a month with a £250 excess.
Mileage wasn't important to me...knowing it's history was.
I only do about 7k a year so in 5 years time it won't have 100,000 on the clock.

Purchased from the forums here. A well known car from a respected owner. Car had been treated like a baby from new.

Keep an eye on the forums here......they do come up occasionally. There have been a few 35i E89's recently even a 35is sub 19k.
I was fortunate to get a car I knew in the colour, price and spec I wanted.

I will keep checking. At the moment I am checking about every 2 hours... :D

Been there. :D

Was also checking Autotrader daily for 6 months.
In that time I never saw a 35i in Alpine White in the spec I wanted (DCT,Idrive etc).
Would of considered Silver or Grey but in all that time I never found one highly specced car at the right price.
Wasn't going to compromise hence 6 months to find my dream car.

Keep searching, you'll find one.
