Hi all,

Just picked up an 03 2.5 Z4 yesterday, looking at most of the cars on here i know i'm at the bottom end of the market but I think I got a cracking deal and considering it was the Z or TT for sub £9k ... you know the outcome!

No doubt i'll be requesting your in-depth knowledge on a few matters over the next year. My initial thoughts budget pending would be ditching the amber lights front & rear. Early research suggests that I may have more trouble upgrading the rear lights to the new style (french fries?)
I do prefer them to the circular old school lights, but again... budget pending. If any of you know prices & places or people able to carry out the work that'd be great.
The other modification i'm considering is fitting an after-market stereo with ipod connection, sat nav, dvd etc... Although I've notice the stereo isn't standard din size so i'm presuming there's an adapter facia plate? That said, I do like the original shape of the stereo/dash and wondered if there were any drawbacks to an upgrade?

Before this list gets too long i'll mention my one and only concern, the Z feels slightly juddery at speeds over 60mph. It's not pulling to left/right and there is no vibration in the steering. The vibration is mainly felt in the drivers seat. I'm wondering why this may be. Tyres? Tracking?

Anyways... hello to you all, I'm off for a drive!!!

Welcome to the forum

juddery :? could be tracking, could be the run flats - though they normally cause harsh ride and tramlining...

Enjoy and don't forget to get some photos asap!

Hi & welcome,,

could be a simple thing, one of the wheels needs balancing, if you are not feeling it thru the steering, would guess its a rear one, drivers side?

Welcome and congrats on the fine ride!

As far as I'm concerned, there is no such thing as a "bottom end" of the Z4 gene pool. And as one who once owned an '02 TT roadster, I can honestly say you made a great choice. IMHO, the first gen TT was a fun MOMA-worthy piece of art, but it can't hold a candle to performance and personality of the Z4. And the new TT is just monstrous to me. The Z4 is sinuous, sexy and looks speedy even at a standstill.

I'm a newbie too, but from what I've read, the "juddery" could be the wide run-flats, low pressure or both. I've thought of swapping for other rubber... especially with winter just months away. Also, FWIW, the OEM iPod link is bogus... doesn't seem to allow for much more than the basics (but mine didn't have any instructions). I've heard of better after market solutions.

Congrats again!

Cheers.

welcome and good choice on car, get some pics on. the frennch fry refers to the body coloured part of your current lights (IMHO i prefer these and feel they are an important part of the design) but if you want to change them go for it.
