Would the non M Steering Wheel fit the Z4M?

Quick one... not feeling the fat steering wheel on the Z4M, it suspect it robs some of the steering feel. I much preferred my 2003 standard Z4 wheel.

They look around the same circumference, but does anyone know if it would fit and more importantly if I can fit the airbag from my ///M wheel into a 2005 wheel??

I would have the older wheel reupholstered in nappa leather.

I don't see why not, the M wheel is a common upgrade on non M cars. I'm guessing if you could arrange a handover someone would swap with cash.

Well that's a first on here I think. I can't think I of any reason why not given that people routinely put M wheels on non M cars and swap over their airbag.

Erm, Hi.

I have a MINT, and I'm not kidding when i say mint, steering wheel in my motor. (I got it off a 5k mile car, and only fitted it 4k miles ago or so). And yes they're a straight swap :)

PM me if you want to sort something out. I'm actually in Blackburn Monday/Tuesday too, so not TOO far....
 
Thanks... That's true, never thought of it that way round.

I'd keep my ///m wheel for the day I sell the car :-)
 
another for it will fit-perhaps get the thinner wheel re-trimmed in M tri-stitch.

Just shows how personal cars are - id got used to my M steering wheel in my 3.0 so much ( it was strange at first) that i didnt like the thinner rim on the Alpina I test drove.
 
Thinking about this one again after discussing with a friend. I still don't quite gel with it. And before we go on, no I'm not selling the ///M wheel :)

What got me thinking at the weekend was if I lower the wheel to where I want it, I can't read the top of the speedo, but with a slightly larger wheel it would allow me to do that. So win win. I would get it re-trimmed in Alcantara of proper leather with tri-stitching.

So my question tonight is.. does anyone know the the size of each steering wheel, non ///M and ///M? I don't want to go back to a bus wheel like my E36 M3 :)

Also, if a don't want to reattach the steering wheel controls, I assume this doesn't cause any errors on the dash etc?

Looks yes and I love how it's dished. But functionally no, too fat and I can't lower it and maintain visual with the top of my dials, which then upsets the driving position.

I also can't help but think all that foam padding is robbing feel too!

I once had an aclantara OMP wheel in my M3 track car and it was epic, but wouldn't suit the image of the Z4M.

Anyway, for the sake of £40 from ebay, it's worth comparing.
 
G, what are you doing man!? For me, the wheel is one of the best features. My mate recently bought a Cayman S and I took it for a drive yesterday. First thing I noticed was just how thin and cheap the steering wheel was. For me it really detracted from the driving experience. Don't do it.... :poke:
 
It's an odd move, but can understand it. I went the other way of ///M instead of standard and love it, but for similar reasons to you I keep stock somewhat skinny wheel on my comp Jeep
