Would it be a bad choice to run different branded tyres on front and back?

Hi guys

Possibly a stupid question and I'm sure it has been asked before but I did try searching for an answer and didn't find anything specific.

Car has Conti Sport Contact 3s all round but when I had the car in the garage today checking the bushes, it turns out the rears need changed. I don't know if I want the Conti s on again and wondered would it be a big drama to have a different brand on rear if fronts are still Conti s?

Cheers
Ben

Though I personally prefer a matched set all round its not a big deal, and I've ran different brands due to availaibilty or wanting a change but other tyres still had good tread. Having matching tyres on each axle is more important.

I wouldn't be bothered about brands but would go for similar characteristics such as good in the wet etc. My old Supra had Vreds on the back and Falkens on the front and the car under steered in the wet like a bastard.

The Vreds were just too good.

Thanks guys that puts my mind at rest. The fronts are far too fresh to change and I will be sure to put a good quality brand on for obvious reasons. Thanks for the advice.

I had runflats on the front and goodyears on the rear and it destroyed the car. Was down right dangerous. Had to rep,ace the fronts even though they didn't need doing.

Oh I'll definitely be sticking with the non run flats, just want a different brand as there seem to be better options out there for the money.

So long as it's not a run flat / standard mix I wouldn't bother too much

Due to nails punctures and non availability I've been running Avons on the front Pirellis on the rear for the last 10k miles with no problems

Can't wait to get shot of the Pirellis mind - don't like em !

Aslong as they're the same across the axle it'll be fine. Just don't go with budget tyres. That's what ruins the ride
I've run Bridgestone runflats on the front with vreds on the back
vreds on the front and rear
Vreds front and kumho rears.

Never had an issue

Cheers guys. I'm thinking Vreds as they seem to be an excellent choice and good value although I've found Goodyears for the virtually the same price so just need to decide which ones to get.

I had a similar situation recently, fronts needed changing and rears almost new. I wanted to upgrade to PSS so have currently got these on the front and Falken 453 on the rear. Although not the best for outright grip, I quite like the characteristic of superior front to rear grip. When time comes for new rears it will be PSS all round however.

i would argue that having less grip on the rears than the front is possibly terrible advice. even more so on a RWD car. unless your after a tail happy car in which case its the best :D

I had Goodyear as2's on the rear and a different branded pair on the front and the car was dangerous almost undriveable. Dsc light was coming on doing 40 mph round long sweeping corners.

I could corner in my old L200 pickup faster than the z at one point.

Finally after a while I got on with it and put As2's on the front too and the car was instantly sorted.
