Would I be foolish enough to win the comp?

There is a small river crossing close to my home, but I have never been brave enough (or foolish enough) to do this in my Zed to win the competition. Took this shot of a jeep crossing it at full pelt. I used my new EOS 50d on sport mode.

I had thoughts about a friend driving my Zed from the other direction, headlights blazing with me snapping at 6 frames per sec.

Would make a great shot, but how much would a new engine cost after it had sucked in all that water?

sorry, but I wouldn't... just for some photo comp??? You must be having a laugh! Everyone is egging you on to do it, but I doubt many of them would do it themselves. Bad idea, foolish and utterly pointless IMHO! :thumbsdown: :thumbsdown:

Depends how deep it is and how fast you drive.
There are sensible and spectacular ways to do it.

Frankly up to 6" deep a steady drive across would be harmless and you'd get a nice shot, provided no bow wave built up near the lights. Water would never go into the air intake as it's very high.

Strangely bigger issues occur on the rear diff and gearbox which have breathers. These are designed to relieve air pressure and when they hit colder water contract and suck in water contaminating the oil. You also risk ballasts on the headlights and if you go too slow seepage over the sills and tooling holes in the floor

Of course doing it at 'lifted Jeep speed would be stupid.
