Would anyone consider trading their Z4 Coupe (3.0si or Z4M) for my E89 i23? Happy to pay the difference.

Hey all

Just putting some feelers out there in case anyone has been thinking about moving from a Coupe to an E89 Roadster.

I currently own a 2010 BMW Z4 i23 (E89) with the N52 engine, bought for £10,000, and I’ve invested in a few tasteful improvements since owning it, including:
  • Brand-new chrome alloy wheels - £280
  • New front tyres (None runflats) - £360
  • Yellow calipers (professionally painted – looks stunning)
  • Performance air filter upgrade - £80
  • New auxiliary belt - £220
  • Full recent service
  • Clean interior, great running condition
  • Rear spoiler - £120
  • 10mm spacers - £80
The car is mechanically solid, drives beautifully, and I’ve genuinely increased its condition and value since purchase. It’s been very well looked after.

What am I looking for?

I’m ideally interested in trading for a:
  • 2006–2008 Z4 Coupe 3.0si, or
  • Z4M Coupe if anyone is crazy enough
Manual preferred, but I’ll listen to offers.

I’m happy to pay cash on top, depending on condition and spec.
I’m not expecting an equal swap — I fully understand the value difference between the E89 and E86 coupes.

As much as I love my E89, I’ve always had a soft spot for the E86 Coupe — the driving feel, the rarity, and the shape are just something special. I’m just seeing if there’s someone going the other direction and wants the open-top experience of the E89 instead.

If anyone is even remotely interested, feel free to reply here or PM me and we can chat
Happy to share photos, service history, and any details privately.

I'm trying to look for a nice coupe less than 60,000 miles.

If anyone has 1 or more z4's in storage or a garage who might be interested please reply to this post and lets get the ball rolling.

Surely you'd have more luck simply selling your e89, then buying your preferred e86? The market for swapping cars must be a lot, lot smaller?

I suppose it's worth a try, but maybe if your E89 was a 30i that might have improved your chances. And a bit more detail of your car like mileage, colour, etc. wouldn't hurt.

FWIW you're going to have to pay a lot for a Coupe with less than 60K miles now they are all at least 17 years old. You could pay a fair bit less for a higher mileage one as the N52 is pretty bulletproof. Someone on here has one that has done 200K and another forum member's has done 193K!

Anyway good luck with your E86 quest.
