I would say upgrade, but wait for better options. I know i'm going to be beating myself up and throwing myself off the balcony for not getting heated seats in a few months. What can I say, I was impatient. :D

Heated seats in Nevada? :?

You need cooled seats IMHO.

Or you could think of Indians (the South Asian variety) answering your call to a help centre because your computer went "belly-up". If I recollect that burns a patricular part of your anatomy

Then you won't need seat warmers :P

The only one I can think of is to add lots of broccoli and beans to my diet. What other ways were you thinking of, sweetie?

Yup, snows there. Never saw more Subarus in one town in my entire life.

I looked at and drove the 2.5 and the 3.0 si sport on the basis that:

- insurance was no more expensive (even despite being 27 and two speeding convictions)
- it sounds just amazing (though the 2.5 sounded good too) - most noticably though at low revs
- accelerating was a bit quicker, but not that much.
- you do get a few extras included in the price jump.

but that was me comparing one 06 with another 06 model. If you don't have the sport button at the moment, then I would guess that would be the biggest difference. with it switched off, you can drive around town sensibly, but when overtaking it is fantastic to have instant capult-like acceleration.

I guess there's another big decision on my vote here...upgrading vs. buying. If I didn't own a z already and was looking at 2 different vehicles with similar options, I'd surely go for the 3.0i or 3.0si over the 2.5i. But upgrading is a different story. Then you have a lot of hassle involved for the slight power increases.

Yeah you need both cooling seats and heated seats IMO for Vegas. It does dip down into 40's an 30's during the winter if memory serves. A little snow, though rarely in the valley, and it never sticks there. Besides what if I want to drive the car to the mountains? Or Big Bear? Unless I have female companions i'll probably have a cold seat :|
*edit* Granted i'm pretty sure a snowboard will not fit in the trunk of the z4 so i'd either have to throw it in the passenger seat or get a rack thinger. Not to mention winter tires. Yeah i'll probably just drive my clunker of a truck.

A lot of talk of performance difference in this thread and it makes for great board debate. I'd come from a different perspective:

Why are you really thinking of trading?? Is it to get the new model or get rid of the old?

Will you be happier going faster (probably marginal in real world conditions) for the loss of the extras that you seem to like?
What is the true price to trade? I bet it ends up more than expected
Do you want a newer car (with potential new set of problems) or is your car perfect an sorted out?
Is a cheap '06 with no extras a good buy - I'd say it will have an even lower trade in next time around

IMHO when it comes to trade later next time poorly equipped cars make poor money

When I purchased a few months ago I opted for older model. the most fully loaded I could find and chose not to waste 000's on newer model year.

I'd stick with what you have unless you have a burning desire to spend the money. Wait a year and buy a fully loaded '06 or '07

Thank you for all your opinions! At this time I have decided to wait until I can I can test drive an 06/07Si and if I think it is a big enough difference, to find one that has all the options I want.

I truly appreciate everyone's time and effort. I have really enjoyed reading everyones opinions!

Well, I have a 2005 2.5 and am very happy with it, you know when it comes to power, how often do you really use it to the max, how often are you redlining your tach. Really, if it is all the time then go for the bigger engine and pay to play price, when I see tests between one car and another and one car goes 6.0 or 5.9 and the other is 5.8 and 5.7, who really cares, well to some it makes a big difference, but in the real world and not on paper, were talking pennies in our pocket. PLus having the bigger engine means your burning more gas all the time no matter how hard you push your car and so forth.........I would not give up my leather, hid lights, auto dimming mirrors, etc......for a bit more push when I put the pedal to the floor. Relax enjoy the ride. The 2.5 has more than enough power and is super smoooooth to be very fun. Imagine driving a mustang gt? the feeling of the fast power in a straight line will fade quickly. The z4 is a fine tool like a swiss watch, sure you can buy the M but for 20-30k more is is really worth it? if money is no issue at all.......then ok do it, but it won't make such a huge difference anyway......wanna laugh.....I put a M decal on the back of my car and it looks great, aside from the double exaust from the back you can't tell. Hope my car does not get stolen because it is marked M that would be the kicker.

Have fun and enjoy your ride.

^^^ I'm sorry but I do not think that you should stick an ///M on the back of a 2.5 - most people do not know what the ///M means. The people who know what an ///M means will just laugh.

I am

Every chance I get and in every gear possible!!!! And, yea, if I had an //M, I would kill myself in less than a week. The 2.5 is more than enough for me. Any more and I'd just be going thru tires like they're goin' out of style!

Might as well add the A & the G to the M. I hear it makes the car go into sport mode indefinitely.

Sorry but you are totally deluded in this, justify your 2.5 purchase if you feel the need to but if you think it comes close to an M in speed and handling you are kidding yourself. Of course it's worth the extra, it's a far more capable car than the 2.5 and I don't mean to denigrate your car in saying that. You should really try driving one before you comment on the performance difference, and get the M badge off. Enthusiasts will be able to tell the difference at a glance and you'll look like a wannabe. Didn't set out to offend you but your post is way off in a number of ways.

I wouldn't trade up to a basic spec 3.0si, i'd wait and get a fully loaded one if thats what you really wanted.

:)

Brossard,

Each to their own choice and desire. The 2.5 is a great car, however according to the majority of US buyers you are clearly in the minority in your choice of Z4. Sales YTD as at August 2007:

2.5i (E85) 6 :(
3.01 (E85) 577 :)
3.01 Roiadster 266
etc, etc,

Total Sales 1127 YTD

As for sticking an ///M badging on it. I can't see the purpose and if it does get stolen there is a significant chance that it would be uninsured due to the greater risk (that is certainly the UK case)
