Tyre pressure monitoring is done through the ABS sensor - it basically detects if the wheel on one side is spinning at a different speed to the other (which it does if the pressure drops as the diameter changes slightly).

The TPMS sensor is a sealed unit so some gloop should have no impaact...its a partial theory as I did try it out on SWMBO F56 Mini that has a similar system but the tyre was unrecoverable...however no issue with any of her sensors thereafter which are very similar to the E89 sensors..

That’s only true of first generation TPMS....E89 use second generation...measures actual pressure...gloop doesn’t affect them...

Not all. My 2009 E89 definitely doesn't have tyre pressure sensors, just ABS wheel speed sensors.

Now to source the best gloop!

Based on what I have read I bought Holts Tyre Weld - thankfully I haven't needed it yet! :)

Looks like 8/2010 was the last manufacturing date of the ABS based versions...

If you really want to ensure the ‘cockwomble’ gets his comeuppance, just drop an email complaint to the CEO of his firm explaining why you will never go back to that service center, and neither with the thousands of members of the Z4 forum now you have shared your experience. 🙂

Hahahha, i would but its been a few days now no tyre pressure light come up and i have to say my car hasnt felt this good ever. Ive left them a review expressing their customer service and alot of other people have agreed with myself. The problem is they actually do a good job, just their service... ive sent an email to the manager of the store, with a link to people skills training course located near the shop. So hopefully that will help

A puncture i had last week, non runflat on a bumpy road resulted in 3 cracks to my alloy. A 3 mile walk, a morning off work and a load of hassle..but i still wouldn't go back to run flats.

Or just an attempt to keep driving on a flat non runflat for a distance after the puncture lost all air...

I’ll stick with the Run Flats - warts and all!

Ive not found them as bad as the majority say and on holiday in Germany the current car (35is) was arrow straight at 140+
The previous E89 (3.0l) however was “nervous “ at circa 100/120mph

Apart from anything else mrs K says it’s Driving Miss Daisy/UK speeds on the Autobahn if I go non Runflats.

TPM was not reset after the runlets where removed, lost pressure without indication and on a on a bad road the results are as seen.

Why wasn’t the system reset?

Why wasn’t the system reset?

Because i assumed the guy that swapped over the tyres did it, and i diddnt check. My fault totally.

I think it’s best not to have the tyre fitter piddle about with iDrive - who knows what settings they could screw up?

Run flats are going on mine tomorrow. The Bridgestone RFs are just too nervous generally on wet roads and are easily upset with the slightest mid-corner bump. I’m sure there are better RF tyres available now but I’m switching to Uniroyal Rainsport 4. Can’t wait!

Right podres week one update. Best decision hands down. Grip on wet and comfort holy !!! Anyone waiting to do the jump do it. Regarding the cockwamble, left my tyres without checking them through the week and only did it today. The individual set the fronts to 35psi and the rears to 35psi aswell. I did notice after the wear in period the comfort went abit strange so i upped the rears to 40psi as a test and the front to 37psi and ladies and gentlemen the z4 is one comfy beast of a machine

It may have been a painful process, but it's great to hear you are so pleased with the end result!
